Red Dog Maynard devoted 10 years to researching and writing a history of the first 10 years of scouting in Manatee County. Scouting in Manatee County started in 1910,the same year as Boy Scouts of America was incorporated. Many of Manatee's leaders over the years got their start as Boy Scouts. He lists 746 Eagle Scouts, the most recent being Benjamin Price this month. The first was Warren Saunders in 1929.
