Venice (English /ˈvɛnɪs/ VEN-iss; Italian: Venezia [veˈnɛttsja]) is a city in northeastern Italy sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. It is located in the marshy Venetian Lagoon which stretches along the shoreline, between the mouths of the Po and the Piave Rivers. Venice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture, and its artwork. The city in its entirety is listed as a World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon.
Venice is the capital of the Veneto region. In 2009, there were 270,098 people residing in Venice's comune (the population estimate of 272,000 inhabitants includes the population of the whole Comune of Venezia; of whom around 60,000 live in the historic city of Venice (Centro storico); 176,000 in Terraferma (the mainland), mostly in the large frazioni (roughly equivalent to "parishes" or "wards" in other countries) of Mestre and Marghera; and 31,000 on other islands in the lagoon). Together with Padua and Treviso, the city is included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), with a total population of 2,600,000. PATREVE is only a statistical metropolitan area without any degree of autonomy.
National Geographic or NatGeo may refer to:
A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. Although no consensus exists as to where that boundary is drawn, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits". The term featurette originally applied to a film longer than a short subject, but shorter than a standard feature film.
The increasingly rare term short subject means approximately the same thing. An industry term, it carries more of an assumption that the film is shown as part of a presentation along with a feature film. Short is an abbreviation for either term. Short films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals and made by independent filmmakers for non profit, either with a low budget or no budget at all. They are usually funded by film grants, non profit organizations, sponsor, or personal funds. Short films are generally used by filmmakers to gain experience and/or prove their talent in order to gain funding for future films from private investors, entertainment companies, or film studios.
San Marco is one of the six sestieri of Venice, lying in the heart of the city as the main place of Venice. San Marco also includes the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Although the district includes Saint Mark's Square, that was never administered as part of the sestiere.
The small district includes many of Venice's most famous sights, including St Mark's Square, Saint Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace, Harry's Bar, the Palazzo Dandolo, San Moisè, the La Fenice theatre, the Palazzo Grassi and the churches of San Beneto, San Fantin, Santa Maria del Giglio, San Maurizio, San Moisè, Santo Stefano, San Salvador, San Zulian and San Samuele.
The area is densely built and was the location of Venice's government. It is now heavily touristed and there are many hotels, banks and expensive shops.
San Marco is also a place which is used in several video games such as in Tekken, Assassin's Creed II and Venetica.

Venice, more than any other European city, has an endlessly seductive charm. For centuries, it was nicknamed La Serenissima, "The Most Serenely Beautiful One"— and for good reason. Along with sampling the sumptuous art treasures of Venice and exploring its back-street wonders, we'll cruise its lagoon, stopping in fiery Murano for glass, pastel Burano for lace, and murky Torcello for a sense of where Venice was born. © 2012 Rick Steves' Europe

After sorting through the monuments of Venice's powerful past, we'll trace its decline from Europe's most powerful city to its most hedonistic one. We'll cruise the Grand Canal, luxuriate in a venerable café, and savor fresh fish canal-side with Venetian friends. Becoming as anonymous as possible in this city of masks, we'll be dazzled by masterpieces of the Venetian Renaissance and get intimate with the city of Casanova...on a gondola in the moonlight. © 2012 Rick Steves' Europe

The ‘city of lagoons’, Venice became the capital of romance, the dream of honeymooners, and destination of millions because of the Saint Mark’s Cathedral, the St. Mark’s Clock, the Doge’s Palace, the Bridge of the Sighs and the tower of Campanile. From a gondola we can take a look at the Santa Maria Della Salute church, the Rialto Bridge, while taking the narrow calles instead of the canals, one can also see the birthplace of Marco Polo, the Zanipolo temple and the statue of Colleoni. I stepped out of a train
Into the sinking city
Didn't know what to expect
And suddenly it hit me
I'm not ready for all this
Liquid highways traffic lights
At every intersection
People boarding wooden ducks
It captures my attention
I'm not ready for all this
I can't believe it when they say
Someday all this will fade away
Into the abyss under the sea
And all this just makes me feel like
Makes me feel like
Makes me feel like
It's the real Atlantis
I'm in Venice
Forever with me
I'm in Venice
It will never, leave me
Walking little alley ways
That whisper secret stories
Of people wearing masquerades
In a city full of glory
I'm not ready for all this
And I'm gazing all around me
And it feels like time is drowning
Venice away
I'm just standing on the bridge of sighs
The breeze is making me hear their cries,
I'm just standing on the bridge of sighs
I'm in Venice
