Request on 07:34:28, 4 April 2017 for assistance on AfC submission by Andraradu2016[edit]

07:34:28, 4 April 2017 review of submission by Andraradu2016

Hello, my article was declined even it has everything what it should have. Can anyone help me, please?

Andraradu2016 (talk) 07:34, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Reply: I think the most recent reply from SwisterTwister on February 1, 2017 gives you everything you need. There that use stated " The concern is that the sources are either too close as business announcements, wherever published, or simply trade publications that focus with it. For example, the mentioning of a Kickstarter campaign is unnecessary for our policies. What's best is to focus first with only the best major independent news, as that's the necessary. It's also important to note Drafts are judged by their own merits, and they cannot be inherited any notability from others", in case you find it difficult to view.
To elaborate, the amount of content you have likely outweighs the wealth of sources available to you. The user is recommending that you start again, and write only material that comes directly from major independent news coverage. Try for something sleeker; something that sticks just to the barest and most notable facts in totally neutral language. That allows the AFC reviewers to see whether or not your subject is notable. For further help, you may want to read the following Wikipedia policy on good sources: Wikipedia:Reliable_Sources. Isingness (talk) 16:20, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

13:17:05, 4 April 2017 review of submission by Bueschinger[edit]

My first draft was declined with the following: This draft reads more like an advertisement for the art exhibition than like a neutral Wikipedia article.

So I deleted two sentences "The entrance is free. Everybody is welcome" and paragraph "Edition" which sounds like an advertisement the most. Now it's actually just the translation of the German Wikipedia version: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videoart_at_Midnight.

I resubmitted the new draft.

If it still sounds like an advertisement, please let me know. I will work again with a native speaker on it. Or please don't hesitate to make corrections.

Two third of the visitor of the platform and also of the web site are english speaking. A lot from US. I think it is relevant and worth to be mentioned also on en.wikipedia

23:30:30, 4 April 2017 review of submission by Ctmuva2000[edit]

Hello, thank you for reviewing my article! I believe the subject, Kristina Pimenova, meets and exceeds the notability requirement because she has starred in a full length feature film, appeared in many high profile fashion magazines including the cover of Vogue, and has 4 million Facebook and 1.8 million Instagram followers. She is widely considered a legitimate supermodel. She is already included on Wikipedia in many other languages except English. The first article I submitted for review was a brief summary, similar to the Spanish language article. I am happy to expand the article and go into more detail if you believe it will be accepted for publication. I was wondering what additions I should make to help meet the eligibility requirements. Thank you for your help! Sincerely, Christopher Moore Ctmuva2000 (talk) 23:30, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

As has been pointed out to you before, there already is an article Kristina Pimenova in main space (and previously in draft space). You are free to help and improve the existing article. Lyrda (talk) 00:55, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

17:36:35, 5 April 2017 review of submission by 208.186.60.47[edit]

208.186.60.47 (talk) 17:36, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

I am curious. I had an article denied because "it used copyrighted material". That is true. But the material was quoted and the source given in the preceding sentence. This is the standard way material is referenced in scientific papers (e.g. According to so-and-so: "quoted stuff"). It appears has different rules. I would be glad to correct the problem. The quote was from the official description of an award. It cannot be paraphrased. What does it need? I could add a footnote detailing the source, which I had already given. Or, should I get permission from the copyright owner (i.e. Usenix) to use the quote? Or?

Thanks much, in advance, for your time to answer this.

Correct to my previous question. The quote that "was copyrighted material" was referenced with a footnote in the sentence previous to it. So, the source was named, it was pointed to on the web with a footnote, and it was quoted. I don't know how else to give credit than through these mechanisms. So, I really do need help on understanding this.

Thanks again! Deborah Scherrer

Sorry, my bad. Here is the draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:The_Software_Tools_Users_Group_(STUG)

Reply - I've reviewed the article submission you created, and it does not appear that it is cited properly either by Wikipedia or academic standards. That said, specific academic citation practices aren't what are generally followed here, so there is no need to discuss that. To answer your specific question, see this document for more information on how to cite properly on Wikipedia: Wikipedia:Citing sources . Isingness (talk) 18:56, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

08:37:03, 6 April 2017 review of submission by Fiyin Adeyera[edit]

My draft Article has been denied submission two times and I was told to improve the reference. I'd like to please confirm if the subject has to necessary be featured on BBC, FT or Forbes to be acceptable as an article? Thank you

Fiyin Adeyera (talk) 08:37, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Fiyin. Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. In order to demonstrate that an article for the subject is appropriate, you need to demonstrate that he has received in-depth coverage from reliable sources that are independent of him. These sources do not necessarily have to be the BBC or Forbes or the Financial Times, but you have the right idea when you cite them as examples. Before posting here, I took a look at your submission and did not find anything that would even begin to demonstrate "notability" (as we use that word here on Wikipedia). Instead, I saw passing mentions, links to networking sites, an interview, and a report on statements made by the subject at a conference. None of this rises to the level of the "in-depth" or "substantial" coverage that will be needed. On a different note, I see that you described the subject's children as "adorable". I have no doubt that those children exist and are indeed adorable. But the question is -- how do you know that? Do you have some close relationship with the subject? If so, you should read our conflict-of-interest guidelines. I hope this response has been helpful. NewYorkActuary (talk) 17:26, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

Reply - I would recommend starting with the kinds of references that Wikipedia prefers, namely those explained here: Wikipedia:Reliable Sources. Currently the references you use do not comply with the rules outlined there. If you are able to find sources that match this criteria, adding them to your draft should help you advance towards possible acceptance. Isingness (talk) 04:56, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

12:15:17, 8 April 2017 review of submission by TeamAvB[edit]

On the sandbox article I asked for submission about the Russian painter Georgy Kichigin I need to upload some pictures to complete the article.

TeamAvB (talk) 12:15, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, TeamAvB. Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. The process for uploading images can be complex and you can get an introduction to it by reading WP:Uploading images. But before you do so, you should put some time into finding reliable sources for the information that appears in your draft because, without them, your draft is unlikely to be accepted for publication. Information about what types of sources are acceptable here can be found at WP:Reliable sources. I hope this response has been helpful. NewYorkActuary (talk) 13:00, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

13:14:24, 8 April 2017 review of submission by Mariojalves[edit]

A few years ago I submitted an article on the International Federation of Pedestrians. The article was declined because of lack of not notability.

I did try to justify but could not convince the administrator.

After being away from login in to wikipedia for a few years I just noticed that the Article for creation page was deleted because it was heavily based on the International Federation of Pedestrians website and used the logo of the organization.

My questions: - Naturally you should and can use the information on a organisation website to tell their history and quote accurately their Mission and Objectives (among other materials). How can that be done? How can I have copyright permission? To illustrate the article about one organisation is necessary copyright clearance to use its logo?

Mario J Alves (talk) 13:14, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Mario. Welcome back to Wikipedia. I think your questions miss a basic point -- a Wikipedia article should not be primarily based on what an organization says about itself, but on what reliable third-party sources are saying about it. There should be very little reason to be quoting extensively from the website, especially when a link to the organization's web site will probably be included in the article's "External Links" section. And with specific reference to quoting Missions and Objectives, articles that provide extensive quotes of these things are often viewed as promotional (and, hence, subject to deletion for that reason). As for logos, copyright permission is usually not needed, as a single use of a current logo on an article about the organization typically qualifies as "fair use" of the logo. But note that fair-use images can only be used in articles, and not in drafts submitted to Articles for Creation. If you do choose to re-create your article and submit it for review here, the logo should not appear until after the draft has been accepted for publication. I hope this response has been helpful. Request on 13:51:58, 8 April 2017 for assistance on AfC submission by Karanachanana[edit]

I am getting an error message on my submission "This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. ", though i have written original content

Karanachanana (talk) 13:51, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Karan. Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. The message is not an error -- the two reviewers who looked at your submission thought that its overall tone was promotional (and that's what we often mean when we say "advertising"). You really do need to re-write your submission to reflect a neutrally-worded, encyclopedic tone of voice. You also need to provide in-line citations to the sources of the material you are using. A single clump of references at the bottom of the draft is not sufficient, and you can look to WP:Referencing for beginners for information on the proper way to provide those references. Finally, writing about yourself is extremely discouraged here on Wikipedia. See WP:AUTO for more information on this. I hope this response has been helpful. 13:59:02, 8 April 2017 review of submission by M RAMZAN KHERO BALOCH[edit]

I am sure and there is a family matter which is not include in the baloch trible all sub tribles of baloch are added but this is not added even in the sub tribles by the way kharani is written in the tribles which is considered as khaira or khero but the simple name khaira or khero is not written by the help of wikipedia i want to write it. And khaira balochistan is the simple and wide reference of khaira as a baloch

M RAMZAN KHERO BALOCH (talk) 14:02, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, M Ramzan. Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. I am not at all sure what question you are asking here. But I took a look at your submission and found that, in its current form, it is unlikely to ever be accepted for publication. You need to demonstrate that the topic is worthy of inclusion in this encyclopedia, and you need to do this by citing reliable third-party sources. These basic concerns are addressed in WP:Notability and WP:Reliable sources. I hope this response has been helpful. NewYorkActuary (talk) 14:57, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

My article had third party sources that are public, verifiable, secondary, and have a high level of integrity. I can't fully understand what sources would be better...no official biography of my subject has been published. He is certainly notable: international reputation for excellence, many demonstrations that he has been influential for good, even a national Twitter campaign by the cast of the Captain America movie to show support for a widely known and loved and very interesting person. I have recommended his books to people and several have said they were surprised not to find him on Wikipedia, since he has such an enormous body of respected work and has made so many contributions to contemporary journals, colleges, etc... I thought it would be obvious that he is notable, and easy to prove his biography from the published sources. I'm really not sure where to turn next on this.CharOster (talk) 02:43, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

CharOster (talk) 02:43, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Reply - One thing that could help in this case is for you to use "inline citations" in the style described here Wikipedia:Inline_citation, rather than using hyperlinks to external sources as your citations. This will make it easier for reviewers to help you, as they can more easily review your sources and see whether or not they are acceptable. I would also review the policy Wikipedia:NPOV as it will help you understand how to better write within the mandatory "neutral point of view" here on Wikipedia. 02:57:05, 9 April 2017 review of submission by Maria Grimana[edit]

Hello,

my article was declined twice. Initially I was also told that I had to put too many citations. I removed many of those, I think I left the number to a minimum in order to prove that whatever the article mentions is demonstrable (the sources are all notable: important magazines, newspapers, publishing houses and museums. Can someone tell me if my citations are acceptable?

Thank you very much!

12:22:48, 9 April 2017 review of submission by 37.201.138.83[edit]

I think the coverage in prog rock sources is quite extensive, especially this compilation: http://www.progressrec.com/the_label/magic_col-reviews.html. I agree that those websites do not look as reputable as NYT, but this is the nature of prog rock itself being a relatively niche sub-genre. This kind of bands rarely get a front page in the Rolling Stone. This band has been touring for a long time with other (notable) bands, has multiple albums and there are articles in French and Norwegian WP. So why not having an article on them? The page history suggests that there have already been attempts to create this article, so I think this is not the final one. I'd rather make it a nice stub and leave it at that. --37.201.138.83 (talk) 12:22, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Reply - regardless of the field, you will still need to demonstrate that you have reliable sources that can support the content. For bands there is a specific notability protocol that you can find here: Wikipedia:Band. This may help you in determining if the band has a case for notability here on Wikipedia.
