Ben Affleck wants to 'get out' of playing Batman: reports

Quick, crank up the bat signal: Ben Affleck no longer wants to play Gotham City's caped crusader, according to reports.

It has been almost a year since the release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which, despite being a money-maker, was a critical flop.

Ben Affleck dumps directing role

The production team are searching for a director for the new stand-alone Batman movie, after Ben Affleck pulls out.

Now, the co-host of video series Collider Movie Talk – John Campea – claimed Affleck was looking for a way to hang up his bat mask forever.

Campea said he has spoken to three separate people connected to Warner Bros who all say Affleck "want[s] out".

"He doesn't want to be Batman anymore," he said.

"I have been told that Affleck is talking with Warner Bros in an attempt to get out of being Batman.

"If they do not let him out of being Batman, the standalone Batman film that ultimately happens will be the last time we see Affleck as Batman, because he apparently wants out."

Campea said all his sources talked about how Affleck wants out, rather than other details such as whether the script for the next Batman film is any good. But he also urged listeners to take the rumours with a "grain of salt".

However, just last week Variety reported that Matt Reeves - the man behind Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - is in early talks to replace Affleck's directing duties.

The latest instalment of the Batman franchise is slated to begin filming towards the end of 2017, however that date could be pushed back to next year.
