Muir Woods National Monument
Muir Woods National Monument is a unit of the National Park Service on Mount Tamalpais near the Pacific coast, in southwestern Marin County, California. It is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and is 12 miles (19 km) north of San Francisco. It protects 554 acres (224 ha), of which 240 acres (97 ha) are old growth coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) forests, one of a few such stands remaining in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Ecosystem
The Muir Woods National Monument is an old-growth coastal redwood forest. Due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the forest is regularly shrouded in a coastal marine layer fog, contributing to a wet environment that encourages vigorous plant growth. The fog is also vital for the growth of the redwoods as they use moisture from the fog during droughty seasons, in particular the dry summer.
Climate
The monument is cool and moist year round with average daytime temperatures between 40 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (4 to 21 °C). Rainfall is heavy during the winter and summers are almost completely dry with the exception of fog drip caused by the fog passing through the trees. Annual precipitation in the park ranges from 39.4 inches (1,000 mm) in the lower valley to 47.2 inches (1,200 mm) higher up in the mountain slopes.

A National monument is a monument constructed in order to commemorate something of national importance such as a war or the country's founding. The term may also refer to a specific monument status, such as a national heritage site, which most national monuments are by reason of their cultural importance rather than age. The National monument aims to represent the nation, and serve as a focus for national identity.
Overview
A series of structures or areas deemed to be of national importance and therefore afforded protection by the state are part of a country's cultural heritage. These national heritage sites are often called something different per country and are listed by national conservation societies. Romania has listed at least one plant as a national monument, Nymphaea lotus f. thermalis.

Monument
A monument is a type of structure that was explicitly created to commemorate a person or important event, or which has become important to a social group as a part of their remembrance of historic times or cultural heritage, or as an example of historic architecture. The term 'monument' is often applied to buildings or structures that are considered examples of important architectural and/or cultural heritage.
Etymology
The origin of the word "monument" comes from the Latin moneo, monere, which means 'to remind', 'to advise' or 'to warn', suggesting a monument allows us to see the past thus helping us visualize what is to come in the future. In English the word "monumental" is often used in reference to something of extraordinary size and power, as in monumental sculpture, but also to mean simply anything made to commemorate the dead, as a funerary monument or other example of funerary art.
Creation and functions
Monuments have been created for thousands of years, and they are often the most durable and famous symbols of ancient civilizations. Prehistoric tumuli, dolmens, and similar structures have been created in a large number of prehistoric cultures across the world, and the many forms of monumental tombs of the more wealthy and powerful members of a society are often the source of much of our information and art from those cultures. As societies became organized on a larger scale, so monuments so large as to be difficult to destroy like the Egyptian Pyramids, the Greek Parthenon, the Great Wall of China, Indian Taj Mahal or the Moai of Easter Island have become symbols of their civilizations. In more recent times, monumental structures such as the Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower have become iconic emblems of modern nation-states. The term monumentality relates to the symbolic status and physical presence of a monument.

A 2-minute highlight from our trip to Muir Woods National Monument. Muir Woods is part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area on California's rugged Northern Coast within an hour of San Francisco. Home to California's coastal redwoods, the tallest trees on the planet, this sanctuary of old growth redwoods was set aside by President Theodore Roosevelt 100 years ago. "This is the best tree-lovers monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world," declared conservationist John Muir when describing the majestic coast redwoods of Muir Woods.
Muir Woods is also home to Banana Slugs, North Americas largest land mollusk.

Muir Woods National Monument
I was able to spend about an hour in Muir Woods the other day. Quite an unexpected walk as I found myself nearby on a trip near San Francisco. Muir Woods National Monument is a redwoods forest in Mill Valley California. This redwood forest is nothing like the ones near where I live Like Grants Grove. This one is damp and wet from fog in the area. A beautiful place. I could spend all day here. Wish I could go "off trail" and spend an overnighter here! Probably get arrested and fined for disturbing a National treasure though. And it is just that.......

Gaze up into the forest's canopy, surrounded by Coastal Redwood trees. Don’t get a sore neck, these are some of the tallest trees in the world! Take the time to appreciate the sights and smells down on the ground. Take it easy and stroll along the mostly flat valley floor along Redwood Creek, or get an aerobic workout climbing the paths up the valley slopes so you can look out at the tops of some of the tallest trees in the world. And don't forget to take the time to hug a tree. Theresa and Rachel at the Muir Woods National Monument, a unit of the National Park Service. The Monument is only 15 miles from San Francisco, and includes about 250 acres of absolutely incredible old-growth coastal redwoods. The redwoods in Muir Woods average between 500-800 years old, with the oldest being over 1,200 years old. The tallest tree is 258 feet, with most being over 200 feet tall. Incredibly, the trees grow from a seed no bigger than a tomato's.

Our amazing road thrip through the western United States in July 2015. We just rented a car, bought a cheap tent and sleeping bags and headed out with just a rough tour plan and no reservations of any kind. If you plan to go for a west coast trip too, we can only urge you to do the same. Don't be hesitant if you fear you won't get campgrounds in summer months - we always found our place, and sometimes you end up on the most beautiful places you else would never have seen. Finally, we skipped all cities except San Francisco to spend our time in the wilderness and ended up staying the longest time at one place in Zion National Park, a place where we would just have planned a short visit if we made a concrete tour plan in advance. Our amazing road thrip through the western United States in July 2015.
We just rented a car, bought a cheap tent and sleeping bags and headed out with just a rough tour plan and no reservations of any kind. If you plan to go for a west coast trip too, we can only urge you to do the same. Don't be hesitant if you fear you won't get campgrounds in summer months - we always found our place, and sometimes you end up on the most beautiful places you else would never have seen. Finally, we skipped all cities except San Francisco to spend our time in the wilderness and ended up staying the longest time at one place in Zion National Park, a place where we would just have planned a short visit if we made a concrete tour plan in advance.
It's the full 1 hour version made for our own memory, but we thought we'd share it as other trip videos were also a great help, influence and joy to watch for ourselfes. We tried to recreate the whole experience of the trip in nearly complete chronological order.
It was our first trip with a GoPro, so in places the camera work was less than stellar due to lack of experience (and also lack of needed accessories in the first few days of the trip) - but we decided to leave also shaky footage in if it helped to caputure the complete travel experience.
The title and San Francico intro sequence of our film are obviously influenced by one of our favourite movies - Drive. Don't take it too seriously ;)

Một trong những đối tượng thử nghiệm là con tinh tinh cái đã trở nên hung hăng khi biết là đứa con của nó (nó đã bí mật sinh ra) đang bị đe dọa. Con tinh tinh cái đã bị giết chết sau khi phá hỏng một cuộc họp. Ông chủ của Will là Steven Jacobs (David Oyelowo) ra lệnh cho cấp dưới là Robert Franklin ( Tyler Labine ) ngưng tất cả các cuộc thử nghiệm tinh tinh lại, nhưng Robert không thể tự mình giết tinh tinh con nên ông đã giao nó cho Will. Lúc đầu, bệnh của cha anh cải thiện nhưng 5 năm sau đó, hệ thống miễn dịch của cơ thể chống lại virus và ông mất trí nhớ trở lại. Trong khi sa sút trí tuệ, Charles đã va chạm với hàng xóm của mình và khiến người hàng xóm ( David Hewlett ) nổi giận. Khi anh ta đe dọa Charles và đẩy ông ngã,ngay lập tức Caesar tấn công anh ta. Sau vụ việc, Caesar buộc phải rời khỏi căn nhà của Will và được giữ tại cơ sở động vật linh trưởng San Bruno được điều hành bởi John Landon ( Brian Cox ), tại đây các con khỉ bị đối xử một cách tàn nhẫn bởi Dodge ( Tom Felton ) (con trai Landon) người đang làm bảo vệ ở đó. Caesar bị sự đối xử lạnh nhạt của các nhân viên và các loài khỉ khác. Khi Dodge cùng bạn bè của mình vào cơ sở, một trong số họ tiến quá gần tới lồng Caesar và nắm lấy Caesar, nó đã ăn trộm con dao bỏ túi , sau đó sử dụng nó để thoát khỏi lồng của mình. Caesar giải phóng một con khỉ đột tên là Buck, và với sự giúp đỡ Buck đã giúp Casesar tăng sự thống trị của mình với các loài khỉ khác.
