Victorian sports minister John Eren is confident Brazil and Argentina will bring their strongest squads to Australia, when they face each other and the Socceroos at the MCG in June.
The Socceroos will play Brazil on June 13 in a friendly, a clash the FFA had been hoping to schedule, with the South American giants in Melbourne for a blockbuster clash with Argentina four days earlier.
Australia will be coming off a World Cup qualification match against Saudi Arabia on June 8.
The visiting South American superpowers boast some of the world's best players such as Lionel Messi, Neymar, Sergio Aguero, Philippe Coutinho, David Luiz and Javier Mascherano.
While Eren believes national pride would be enough to ensure full-strength squads from the top-two ranked FIFA nations, he was also buoyed by recent results in the UEFA Champions League.
There were some concerns that given the final of Europe's preeminent club competition takes place on June 3, the availability of Messi, Neymar and Mascherano, in particular, was in doubt given they all play for Barcelona.
But the Spanish giants suffered a 4-0 pummelling in the first leg of their round-of-16 meeting with French club Paris Saint-Germain last week, all but ending any hope of Barcelona featuring in the final.
"When I heard that news I was very happy," Eren said with a smile on Thursday.
"Not that I don't like Barcelona, but the fact that they lost 4-0 means that those players may be free.
"What's bad news for some is good news for others so I got very excited about that, I must say.
"We've made sure that, where possible of course ... they are most likely to be here and that's exactly what we wanted in the contract to make sure those calibre of players attend this very important event.
"This is nations playing against nations, there's a lot of pride at stake here. No one wants to lose those games.
"It may be called a friendly but we know the rivalry that exists between Argentina and Brazil and both teams want the best teams they can bring because this is going to be telecast to the whole world."
The last time Australia played Brazil, in 2013, they suffered a 6-0 shellacking. The result contributed to former coach Holger Osieck's sacking by Football Federation Australia the same year. Eren was hopeful of a better showing this time around.
"Hopefully we'll try our best and we'll do our best," he said.
Melbourne has already had some of the world's biggest soccer superstars as visitors in recent years with Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, Yaya Toure and Steven Gerrard all coming out as part of global exhibition tours with their respective clubs, and having another clutch of champions return to the Victorian capital this year was a "badge of honour" for the state, according to Eren.
Eren said the Brazil-Argentina showdown was already nearly sold out, with 46 percent of tickets purchased by interstate or international fans.
Australia are expected to fly to Russia the day after the Brazil clash for their Confederations Cup campaign, beginning in Sochi on June 19 where the task does not get any easier against world champions Germany.
Tickets for the Socceroos-Brazil match go on sale March 3.
