Bring out the big puns, there is a lot on the line for fish king Josh as he throws down the curry gauntlet to rivals Matt and Alyse during sudden death elimination on My Kitchen Rules.
The competition between group two rivals Josh and Amy and Matt and Alyse has been building to this, after Josh made it clear that he did not like, nor trust the other pair. And they proved him right by being caught red curry handed at their own instant restaurant by using store bought curry paste.

MKR: The battle of the villains
The insults fly as Josh 'The Seafood King' and his partner Amy take on curry-paste-gate pair Matt and Alysia in a sudden death elimination on My Kitchen Rules. Vision: Seven
Barely a minute in and Josh fires the first shot across the bow, "as long as there is no cheating today it should be fair play," to raised eyebrows from Matt and the "fight, fight, fight" cheers of Albert and Dave.
"What do you mean?" says MKR host Pete Evans, knowing full well what Josh means – TV drama gold!
"Well, you know, using curry basically ... from a jar is a big no-no and we don't want to see any of that today." ("I'll be listening to jars clicking open today," he smugly recounts to camera.)
When Matt gets asked by fellow host Manu Feildel what he thinks about the accusation, Matt replies: "Well I don't think we cheated, that's not a label that sits very well with us so we will definitely be out there to prove Josh and Amy wrong. They're going home."
And it seems they have the backing of the other teams too, with Courtney and Duncan admitting to supporting team #MatttheRat and #AlysetheSnake. While known-Josh haters Della and Tully (aka Asher Keddie) watch over 'King Jerk' Josh and Amy just for the show.Â
Whether or not it is tactical, Matt and Alyse have interestingly selected sumac salmon with a fig and red wine sauce for entree despite Alyse being known to vomit fish.
"We're not overly worried about cooking seafood against the seafood king, I mean he talked the talk and did not walk the walk at all," says Alyse. "He walked straight off the plank to the bottom of the ocean last time." (Ugh!)
"I think they're trying to dethrone the seafood king," says Dave. "Matt how do you feel cooking seafood against Josh? Are you going to beat the king at his own game?"
"He doesn't have a seafood game, he got a one out of 10," Matt retorts to the delighted squeals of Kelsey and Amanda. "His seafood was pretty ordinary so we don't have much to live up to... Here's our chance to prove to him that he isn't the seafood king."
Still Amy is looking ship-shape as head chef and says she is "going to bring some organisation and discipline to this kitchen". "Amy has got the ship in order," says Asher Keddie.
Unsurprisingly the self-claimed seafood lovers will serve king fish sashimi with coriander nam jim and apple salad for entree, and thai green curry with spanish mackerel for main.
"I just really want to wipe that smug look off Alyse's face Josh," calls Amy to Josh in the MKR headquarters. "I've seen it around the table too many times, I don't anyone thinking that they're better than anyone else, so I want to take them down a notch today."
"I feel great about competing against the cheaters because we're going to put them where they belong today," quips Josh to the cameras.
"Yeah, there's no other team we would prefer to knock out as much as Alyse and Matt," chimes in Amy.
"It's whacking day today, we're getting rid of all the snakes in the competition," Amy crows in the kitchen to the surprise of Della and Keddie.
"Today is a great day to be a judge on MKR," says a salivating Pete.
Guest judge Guy Grossi is the first to comment on Josh's sashimi, "Well I'm a happy man .. I've got tang here, I've got spice, I've got sharpness from the acid that's in there and it's just a really well balanced dish."
"Whoever has done this dish understands seafood and how simply you can present it and that's all you need to do," adds fellow judge Colin Fassnidge to an 'if you only knew' face on Pete.
Even Manu is taking his "hat off" to the dish.
On the guests tables, Duncan calls it "chalk and cheese" in comparison to their previous meal, to murmurings of "mmm" from the stuffed mouths of the other teams.
Now it's Matt's turn. "That salmon is cooked perfectly," says Manu, with Guy not hiding his delight at an "unbelievable" dish.
"They have treated this fish with the utmost respect and you see how perfectly they have cooked that fish, it just melts, it just dissolves in your mouth," says Liz Egan. And despite a bit of back and forth between Colin and Guy over the red wine sauce, Manu concluded: "Every bite was just yum."
So maybe's Matt's boast that he could be the next seafood king could be true?
The other teams agree. "Who's in front at this stage? It's really tough to call," says Keddie. "... I think Alyse and Matt are in front."
Well if Matt is claiming the seafood crown in round one, Amy is determined to claim the curry crown in round two.
"I am making this curry paste from scratch, it's not coming from a jar," she gloats. "... One of Alyse and Matt's excuses as to why they used jarred curry paste was time, but I've just knocked one up in no time at all."
"Amy's pretty excited to be making her own thai curry paste," says Keddie. "Yeah it's a bit of a filleting knife in the back isn't it,"Â agrees Della.
Alyse invites trouble during the prep of their main by querying Josh and Amy about what they are making. "We're making green fish curry and actually using curry paste that's not from a jar."
"Burn," says Alyse. "Cheeky little buggers."
"If Josh falls short with this curry he might have to eat his words about cheating," Alyse tells viewers.
But Matt burning shallots puts a stopper in the volley of friendly insults flying across MKR HQ. And even though 'team cheats' makes a "big mistake" in adding the charred shallots to the carrot puree, Josh is making his own fish/faux pas by adding his mackerel too early to the curry.
"We stuffed up fish for main last time and I won't let it happen now," he confidently tells Amy, but his sticking point is cooking rice and suddenly he knows he's "setting myself up for a disaster".
"We're plating this curry up and I think my dog has better dinners than this," Josh says. It gets a step up from instant restaurant status but a couple of F-bombs from Amy.
But Matt and Alyse's "anemic" lemon and herb spatchcock isn't faring any better. "This is just manic, this is just mayhem. We feel that we are just throwing everything on the plate."
Still they are happy and claim that for Josh and Amy it's "time to send them back to Broome".
And it may be so, with the judges delivering their dismay at the fish curry since it has very little curry flavour and "the fish is overcooked".
"The spanish mackerel is one of those fish that you cook under but there's no respect shown to the fish here, like you wouldn't know what fish it is," says Fassnidge.
So Josh has proven that he can only cut fish, not cook it.
But hold your high horses, Matt and Alyse's undercooked bird (similar to Della's quail) has underwhelmed the judges.
"We've only just got over the line with cooking here and mine's a little bit under," complains Guy. "The carrot puree has got some kind of weird bitter flavour to it that I'm just not quite picking up on what it is but it's almost like something's burnt in there."
Duncan reckons the puree tastes like "kerosene". Ouch.
"I think it's so close (and not in a good way), I can't pick a winner," says Dave.
Amy makes the entire lemon meringue pie while Josh only cuts the strawberries and pops the champagne as Matt begins burning bananas for his banoffee pavlova.
"Hopefully we can send back the snake to her den with this dessert," says Josh.
Despite their cool exterior while plating, Amy's pie slightly misses the mark for the judges due to undercooked pastry and meringue.
Yet there are a few more po faces over Matt and Alyse's "crowd-pleaser". When judge Karen Martini breaks out the "brave" lingo for pair's re-invented dessert while skewering their lack of technique, the slice and dice music heralds the bad news.
"There's nothing really redeeming with this dessert," confirms Pete.
And even though Alyse thought she had her just desserts delivered in the form of Karen's comments to Amy that "the secret to a green curry, or any curry, lies in the paste ... and I don't think you took the time to build those flavours", she was quickly brought undone by Colin.
"For your main course, congratulations! I didn't think a team could fall from grace as much as the first team," he scathingly decreed, with solo applause.
So for two teams on a fairly even keel, it may have come as a surprise when a 29/60 for Josh and Amy's "rollercoaster" menu just beat Matt and Alyse's "bumpy road" of 27/60.
"It's not nice to be booted off, but it is what it is," says Matt as Courtney once again weeps about being sad.
Despite the much touted rivalry, you can't help but think that they all went out for fish and chips together.
