Australia 9-256 at stumps

That's it for an intriguing opening day of the first Test in Pune. Having won the toss, the tourists appeared as if they would be bowled out for about 210 but an unbeaten 51-run stand by Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood means they will resume on 9-259 on Friday. Starc, having crunched three sixes, is 57 not out and Hazlewood is unbeaten on ... one, the latter surviving 31 balls. On a deck already taking sharp turn, it was fast bowler Umesh Yadav who shone, claiming 4-32 off 12 overs.

Thanks for joining us today and we'll back on Friday for what shapes as another entertaining day.

50-run stand between Starc and Hazlewood

The Indians clearly getting frustrated by this stand, with Starc and Hazlewood enjoying a 50-run stand. Hazlewood has contributed ... one run but has been resolute in defence.

Starc notches half century

Starc's cameo has now become his ninth Test half-century. "That's a super effort," says Shane Warne on the Fox Sports commentary. Half-century off only 47 balls. Remember, his top score in Tests is 99 - against India in Mohali four years ago.

Mitchell Starc adding late dash

Starc clears the boundary for the second time - this time a sweep over long on off Jayant. He is on 28 off 32 balls. A very handy knock. Aust 9-225

New ball taken

Second new ball taken. Aust 9-211. Umesh has 4-25 off 11 overs. Can Starc and Hazlewood hang on for a few overs?

Nathan Lyon falls next ball

Umesh Yadav finds himself on a hat-trick, with Nathan Lyon falling lbw first ball. Lyon calls for a review - replays endorse Nigel Llong's call. Ball would have hit leg stump. Josh Hazlewood, however, survives hat-trick ball.

Steve O'Keefe caught behind

What a catch by gloveman Saha, completing a one-handed, diving attempt to his right to end O'Keefe's stay. Now Lyon falls - reviewed though
