Daphne du Maurier's novel Mary Anne (1954) is a fictionalised account of the real-life story of her great-grandmother, Mary Anne Clarke née Thompson (1776-1852).
Mary Anne Clarke from 1803 to 1808 was mistress of Frederick Augustus, the Duke of York and Albany (1763-1827).
He was "The Grand Old Duke of York" of the nursery rhyme, a son of King George III and brother of the later King George IV.
Anne Hobbs (born 21 August 1959 in Nottingham) is a British former professional tennis player.
Hobbs represented Great Britain in the Wightman Cup and Federation Cup from 1978 to 1989. She was ranked as the top British player for periods during her 12-year career and achieved a best WTA ranking of 33 in singles and 6 in doubles.
Although primarily a doubles specialist, reaching the final of the Australian Open in 1983 and the US Open in 1984 with Wendy Turnbull and the Australian Open Mixed Doubles in 1987 with Andrew Castle, she won singles titles at Indianapolis in 1983 and in Auckland in 1985 and the British Closed in 1985.
Hobbs' industrious serve and volley game earned her singles victories over Virginia Wade, Rosie Casals, Jo Durie, Carling Bassett, and Zina Garrison, among other top ranked players of her time. She now works as a tennis coach and consultant in the area of sports psychology.
Mary Anne Hobbs (born 16 May 1964) is an English DJ and music journalist from Garstang, Lancashire, England. She currently hosts the BBC 6 Music Weekend Breakfast shows, Saturday and Sunday 7-10am, and her 6 Music Recommends show, Wednesday night into Thursday morning 12midnight - 1am.
In the 1980s, Hobbs lived on a bus in a carpark in Hayes, Hillingdon, with the hard rock band Heretic before becoming a journalist for Sounds magazine at age 19. She later went to work for the NME before going on to help found Loaded magazine. While with the NME she served as UK correspondent in Canada on CBC Radio, filing a weekly music report. This contributed to her big break in radio with BBC GLR, working alongside Mark Lamarr.
Hobbs then worked at XFM before being headhunted by BBC Radio 1 after a confrontational interview on XFM with Radio 1's Trevor Dann. She shot a TV series about global biker culture, Mary Anne's Bikes, in Japan, America, Russia, India, and Europe for BBC Choice & BBC World in 2003, and presented the World Superbikes series 2005 for British Eurosport. She also compèred the Leeds Festival between 1999 and 2003. In the early 2000s she narrated the CBBC science series Why 5.
Peter O'Grady, better known as Joy Orbison, is a DJ and producer based in London. His style is a coalescence of house, dubstep, UK funky, UK garage and oldschool jungle. O'Grady achieved underground success with his debut single "Hyph Mngo", released via Hotflush Recordings in October 2009. He is also known for his collaborations with Boddika.
O'Grady credits his uncle Ray Keith for introducing him to jungle and UK garage at a young age. At 13, he took up DJing and eventually moved into production in his 20s, using Fruity Loops to create 8-bar grime loops before developing his sound combining house, disco and dubstep. He cites influences as diverse as J Dilla, My Bloody Valentine, GG Allin, Josef K and The Beach Boys.
His debut single "Hyph Mngo" was called the most forward-thinking dubstep track of 2009 and received airplay and floorplay worldwide. This was followed by "Brkln Clln" on O'Grady's own label Doldrums, which he ran in tandem with partner Impey. In 2010, O'Grady released "The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow" on Aus Music, an eclectic record label founded by Will Saul and Fink.
Digital Mystikz are a dubstep production duo (consisting of Mala and Coki – when the two started making music together as teenagers they were known as Malibu and Coke) from the South London suburb of Norwood. Along with Loefah and Sgt. Pokes, whom make up the group ASBO (All Soundbwoy Out), they operate the DMZ record label and host the influential bimonthly nightclub DMZ, held at the Mass club complex in Brixton, London.BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel was an early supporter of Digital Mystikz, eventually putting them in his annual 2004 Top 50 list at #29. They are among the scene's most famous producers. Their song "Anti War Dub" appeared in the 2006 film "Children of Men", although it wasn't included in the soundtrack. In the summer of 2008, Mala was chosen to headline the night portion of the Sonar Festival in Barcelona. In April 2011 Mala travelled to Cuba with Gilles Peterson who was returning to Havana to produce the second instalment in the 'Havana Cultura' series. While Peterson recorded new material with local musicians, Mala began work on a new album "Mala In Cuba", which was released in September 2012.
