There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.
This week, events in Ohio, Colorado, Idaho, and California.
On Sunday, February 12, the local chapter of anti-Muslim grassroots group ACT for America will host a meeting in Broadview Heights, Ohio. The meeting will include a “national security briefing” via Skype from disgraced former FBI agent and anti-Muslim speaker John Guandolo. The National Sheriffs’ Association hosted a Guandolo presentation at its national conference last weekend.
On Monday, February 13, Mark Krikorian, executive director of the anti-immigrant think tank Center for Immigration Studies, will participate in an immigration policy debate in New York City, New York. Krikorian advised Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and has defended the president’s dangerous executive orders in multiple media appearances since they were announced.
On Tuesday, February 14, the Treasure Valley chapter of ACT for America will host a meeting in Meridian, Idaho. State Rep. Heather Scott will a guest speaker at the event and “will give an update on the current legislative session and especially those topics of interest to ACT members,” according to a Facebook page promoting the event. Scott sits on the Idaho House State Affairs Committee, which recently introduced needless anti-Shariah legislation designed to provoke fear and suspicion of Muslims.
Finally, on Thursday, February 16, the nativist David Horowitz Freedom Center will host an evening reception in Los Angeles, California. The reception will include talk with David Horowitz, who is promoting his new book, Big Agenda, President Trump’s Plan to Save America. Last week, the Freedom Center hosted a talk with Bill Gertz. The Freedom Center also recently announced a “No Sanctuary Campus” campaign targeting undocumented students on college campuses. The first event UC Berkeley on February 1, was cancelled following protests. No other campaign events have been announced.
