Aimard awarded 2017 Ernst von Siemens Music Prize

Pierre-Laurent Aimard has been awarded the 2017 Ernst von Siemens Music Prize. The award, which is given to artists for a life devoted to the service of music, includes a 250,000 euro grant.

Aimard takes part in a prize ceremony on 2 June 2017 at Munich's Prinzregententheater. The ceremony will include a solo performance by Aimard plus a presentation by the Munich Chamber Orchestra featuring works by Composer Prize winners. Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts President Michael Krüger will present the prizes.

Beethoven and Ravel with the Orchestre National de Lyon and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande

To open 2017, Pierre-Laurent Aimard brings his interpretation of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 to the Orchestre National de Lyon under Ton Koopman, part of a program which also includes Haydn’s Symphonies Nos. 1 and 104. Find more information here about these performances on January 12 and 14.

The following week, Pierre-Laurent presents Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major with Lausanne’s Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and Jonathan Nott on January 19, 20, and 22. Find more information about this program, which also includes Ravel’s Rapsodie espagnole and Debussy’s Images for orchestra.

Closing 2016 in Belgium, Lithuania, and Germany

Pierre-Laurent Aimard joins Tamara Stefanovich for two performances in December, first reprising their interpretation of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Mantra for two pianos and electronics at Belgium’s De Singel on December 14 alongside Marco Stroppa in the role of sound director. The 1970 work is scored for two ring-modulated pianos (with ring modulators now replaced by iPads), crotales, wood block, and a recording of morse code.

On New Year's Eve, Aimard and Stefanovich present Brahms’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Messiaen’s Visions de l’Amen at Alpine retreat Schloss Elmau.

On December 16, Aimard presents works by J.S. Bach, Kurtág, Debussy, Boulez, and Julian Anderson in recital under the auspices of the GAIDA Festival in Vilnius, Lithuania.
