Senate
The Senate (also known as the upper house) is made up of 76 senators and is one of the two houses of federal parliament; the other is the House of Representatives.

There are 76 senators, 12 from each state and two each from the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. A partner with the House in the legislative process, the Senate conducts much of its work through an established committee system, including the budget estimates accountability process.
