About

Gold Soundz is a New York-based music and indie culture blog run by a guy in Brooklyn named Marc Z. G. I, the writer, am that guy.

The story of Gold Soundz is long and complicated and involves many people and places.

It began in Toronto as the blog Grubtunes in 2007. In 2010 it took on its current name and URL and played host to numerous shows and musical series around Toronto.

In 2012 I moved to Israel to serve in the IDF for a year and a half. While there, Gold Soundz remained in existence, though it no longer played host to live shows, and the posts were considerably more sporadic. Not so easy to blog about indie rock from the Syrian border…

In 2014 I moved back to Toronto for several months (many of which were spent travelling across North America) and then I moved down to New York to attend law school. Gold Soundz underwent some changes: it now covers movies and print works in addition to music, and it looks a little different. I cut some features and introduced others. But the heart of the blog and its mission hasn’t changed.

If you want to send over some music, books, comics or film for coverage consideration, invite me to a screening or concert, or just say “great job!”, email marc@goldsoundzblog.com.

(p.s. I also make music as Bulldog Skin, with Psychic Earth, and write about my environmentalism adventures in New York @ Sustainability In The City)
