Her name literally is Crystal M, lol.
Call her Moldy Locks. What a class A jerk off.
The RT is one of the most popular police motorcycles on the road today. Just think of the abuse they go through. A ton of idling. 0 mph up to 100 and back to 0 in a few minutes over and over again. When the PDs have skills competitions the RTs run seperate from the HD's. It wouldn't be a fair fight ;)
What’s the rs like on long (2.5 hrs +) rides?
It's not a cloud like the RT I once had however I find the RS is a lot more fun to ride. Long rides are very comfortable.
Appreciate the insight. Starting to plan for the upgrade (currently 750gs). As much as I would love a 1250gsa I’m not sure I can justify that beautiful beast for the amount of pavement riding I actually do. The RT may be a little too comfy for me. The RS seems like it may, may fit the bill. I ride a lot of 200miles, 3-4hrs solo treks.
Glad to help. I have a lot of saddle time with the RS and she is comfortable. Last sizable trip I took was about 700 miles split over 2 days. No fatigue when I stopped for the night. I did add a larger touring windscreen which is nice at highway speed and I have heard of people adding bar risers for added comfort. I opted to keep the bars stock because she performs like a sport bike on the twisties. Still comfortable to me at this point. May change as I get older. I too was looking at GS however I chose the RS for the same reasons you mentioned.
Beautiful bike! I have a 2019 821 and hoping to get a windscreen like that, where is it from, and do you think it helps much?
Thank you. The windshield is from Ducati. It does absolutely nothing besides protect your speedo from rocks / road debris.
Haha, ok well in that case maybe I will skip it.
Different question, your bike has a better looking cover over the coolant tank. Is that original with the bike? I wonder if I could get one for mine, your bike is a 1200 right? Maybe thats the difference:

Not really too sure. It does not look aftermarket and I am the 2nd owner. I did see that some aftermarket sites sell similar covers in carbon fiber.
What are these like in terms of reliability and maintenance? They’re cheap now, I can pick one up in seemingly good condition for around €3000. Looks like a lot of bike for the money, and probably very safe? It’s tempting to me as I could have a big tourer to take my wife on and something smaller/more nimble for bombing about locally on. I could also just upgrade my f800gs to a 1200gs but yunno... more bikes more fun.
I would recommend watching some videos by Chris Harris on You tube. Just search his name with BMW 1150RT after it. He is a previous BMW tech with a wealth of knowledge. In my opinion, they are great bikes and very reliable for long mileage trips. Downfall is service. These bikes take a lot of work just getting to the parts you need to replace.
Nice. I have spent the past year tweaking the ergos on a 09 K12GT and feel like I'm rebuilding my old RT do some degree.
With the high mileage on your RT, did you ever run into the dreaded spline or drive shaft issues I keep reading about? I keep hearing to lube the splines at 40K. I am dreading "tacoing" the bike to do so but I really do love her.
