"Coordinated Universal Time" , abbreviated as "UTC", is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time. It is, within about 1 second, mean solar time at 0° longitude; it does not observe daylight saving time. It is one of several closely related successors to Greenwich Mean Time . For most purposes, UTC is considered interchangeable with GMT, but GMT is no longer precisely defined by the scientific community.
UTC was officially formalized in 1960 by the International Radio Consultative Committee in Recommendation 374, having been initiated by several national time laboratories. The system was adjusted several times until leap seconds were adopted in 1972 to simplify future adjustments. A number of proposals have been made to replace UTC with a new system that would eliminate leap seconds but no consensus has yet been reached.
The current version of UTC is defined by International Telecommunications Union Recommendation , "Standard-frequency and time-signal emissions" and is based on International Atomic Time with leap seconds added at irregular intervals to compensate for the slowing of Earth's rotation. Starting from the outside and working our way in, you can see that the watch is paired with a substantial high-polish, logo-inset stainless steel double deployment buckle, the benefit being that when the buckle is attached to the opposite side of the strap, it creates a continuous loop such that you can't accidentally drop the watch while donning it or removing it.
It's paired with a classically slim, formal watch, black monotone stitch, rectangular scale alligator leather strap, gator on top with a supple calfskin on the bottom for suppleness against the wrist. The lines of the case take their cues from the 1958 Geophysic. They pay tribute to that vintage predecessor. Nevertheless, they feature modern luxury watch refinements, including a dramatic contrasting finish between brushed satin and high polish, as well as a subtle hairline bevel along the flanks of each lug. The watch features a dominant dial with a minimized bezel, the bezel effectively acting as a silver halo, about the stylized universal time dial.
Another vintage element is the interior rehaut. Note the carefully applied luminescent dots. These pay tribute to the 1958 original, which featured internal luminescent dots in radium on the interior of its acrylic crystal. Here the watch features a sapphire crystal, and the dots are contained within the brushed metal rehaut, but the effect, the loving nod, is obviously to those who are enthusiasts of the mark and fans of its history. Outboard of the center dial, you'll note 24 references cities. These cities correspond to the world's 24 primary time zones. Inboard, a 24-hour reference ring denotes the time in each one of these reference cities. Simply set GMT, or Greenwich Mean Time, to correspond to London at the index at 6 o'clock, and it becomes possible to note the hour next to all of these cities, instantly telling the time globally. At center, the dial features a combination of rich, blue lacquer, which has a gloss, gleaming, almost wet appearance to it of great depth, and raised metallic features representing the continents and land masses. These all feature a silver sun ray finish to catch the light and play with it. In fashion it contrasts dramatically with that of the lacquer. All of the indices, as well as the JL logo at 12 o'clock are applied.
You'll note the true second function, which beats in one second or one hertz increments, driven by the manufacture caliber 772 on the reverse side. The 772, constructed entirely in-house for the Geophysic line, features a number of unique measures, including a hacking balance that is discontinuous, which is to say the balance has a yoke-style design, with inset JL logos reminiscent of the company's own corporate marquee. This balance, known as the Gyrolab because of its gyrating motion, and the fact that it was pioneered on the 2007 Extreme Lab prototype series, reduces the aerodynamic resistance experienced by the balance within the air mass of the case. This improves the efficiency of the watch, extends the power reserve, and improves the chronometric performance of the time piece.
You'll also note the winding mass born on ceramic bearings at center. Completely unlubricated and sealed for life, they improve winding efficiency and reduce long-term service needs. The watch features a 40-hour power reserve, and because of the highly efficient unidirectional winding action of the winding mass, more efficient empirically than bidirectional, it tops itself off very quickly. Naturally the watch also features its dual time and true beat seconds. The true seconds occurring in one-hertz steps even though the balance itself operates at four hertz. Greenwich Mean Time
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London. GMT was formerly used as the international civil time standard, now superseded in that function by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). "Time" is the fourth track from the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd's 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon, and the only song on the album credited to all four members of the band, though the lyrics were written by Roger Waters. It is the final Pink Floyd song credited to all four members and the last to feature Richard Wright on lead vocals until "Wearing the Inside Out" on The Division Bell. This song is about how time can slip by, but many people do not realise it until it is too late. Roger Waters got the idea when he realised he was no longer preparing for anything in life, but was right in the middle of it. He has described this realisation taking place at ages 28 and 29 in various interviews. It is noted for its long introductory passage of clocks chiming and alarms ringing, recorded as a quadrophonic test by Alan Parsons, not specifically for the album.
Composition
Time is in the key of F# minor. Each clock at the beginning of the song was recorded separately in an antiques store. This is followed by a two-minute passage dominated by Nick Mason's drum solo, with rototoms and backgrounded by a tick-tock sound created by Roger Waters picking two muted strings on his bass. With David Gilmour singing lead on the verses and with Richard Wright singing lead on the bridges and with female singers and Gilmour providing backup vocals, the song's lyrics deal with Roger Waters' realization that life was not about preparing yourself for what happens next, but about grabbing control of your own destiny.

Starting from the outside and working our way in, you can see that the watch is paired with a substantial high-polish, logo-inset stainless steel double deployment buckle, the benefit being that when the buckle is attached to the opposite side of the strap, it creates a continuous loop such that you can't accidentally drop the watch while donning it or removing it. It's paired with a classically slim, formal watch, black monotone stitch, rectangular scale alligator leather strap, gator on top with a supple calfskin on the bottom for suppleness against the wrist. The lines of the case take their cues from the 1958 Geophysic. They pay tribute to that vintage predecessor. Nevertheless, they feature modern luxury watch refinements, including a dramatic contrasting finish between brushed satin and high polish, as well as a subtle hairline bevel along the flanks of each lug. The watch features a dominant dial with a minimized bezel, the bezel effectively acting as a silver halo, about the stylized universal time dial. Another vintage element is the interior rehaut. This improves the efficiency of the watch, extends the power reserve, and improves the chronometric performance of the time piece. You'll also note the winding mass born on ceramic bearings at center. Completely unlubricated and sealed for life, they improve winding efficiency and reduce long-term service needs. The watch features a 40-hour power reserve, and because of the highly efficient unidirectional winding action of the winding mass, more efficient empirically than bidirectional, it tops itself off very quickly. Starting from the outside and working our way in, you can see that the watch is paired with a substantial high-polish, logo-inset stainless steel double deployment buckle, the benefit being that when the buckle is attached to the opposite side of the strap, it creates a continuous loop such that you can't accidentally drop the watch while donning it or removing it.
It's paired with a classically slim, formal watch, black monotone stitch, rectangular scale alligator leather strap, gator on top with a supple calfskin on the bottom for suppleness against the wrist. The lines of the case take their cues from the 1958 Geophysic. They pay tribute to that vintage predecessor. Nevertheless, they feature modern luxury watch refinements, including a dramatic contrasting finish between brushed satin and high polish, as well as a subtle hairline bevel along the flanks of each lug. The watch features a dominant dial with a minimized bezel, the bezel effectively acting as a silver halo, about the stylized universal time dial.

You can see the Universal Time, and the entire Jaeger-Lecoultre model line on our website, GovbergWatches.com. Starting from the outside and working our way in, you can see that the watch is paired with a substantial high-polish, logo-inset stainless steel double deployment buckle, the benefit being that when the buckle is attached to the opposite side of the strap, it creates a continuous loop such that you can't accidentally drop the watch while donning it or removing it.
It's paired with a classically slim, formal watch, black monotone stitch, rectangular scale alligator leather strap, gator on top with a supple calfskin on the bottom for suppleness against the wrist. The lines of the case take their cues from the 1958 Geophysic. They pay tribute to that vintage predecessor. Nevertheless, they feature modern luxury watch refinements, including a dramatic contrasting finish between brushed satin and high polish, as well as a subtle hairline bevel along the flanks of each lug. The watch features a dominant dial with a minimized bezel, the bezel effectively acting as a silver halo, about the stylized universal time dial.
Another vintage element is the interior rehaut. Note the carefully applied luminescent dots. These pay tribute to the 1958 original, which featured internal luminescent dots in radium on the interior of its acrylic crystal. Here the watch features a sapphire crystal, and the dots are contained within the brushed metal rehaut, but the effect, the loving nod, is obviously to those who are enthusiasts of the mark and fans of its history. At center, baton-style hands feature simulated radium patina, yet another nod to the original. These have the appearance of aged radium. Nevertheless, they are modern Super-LumiNova, and they glow brightly in low or no light conditions.
Outboard of the center dial, you'll note 24 references cities. These cities correspond to the world's 24 primary time zones. Inboard, a 24-hour reference ring denotes the time in each one of these reference cities. Simply set GMT, or Greenwich Mean Time, to correspond to London at the index at 6 o'clock, and it becomes possible to note the hour next to all of these cities, instantly telling the time globally. At center, the dial features a combination of rich, blue lacquer, which has a gloss, gleaming, almost wet appearance to it of great depth, and raised metallic features representing the continents and land masses. These all feature a silver sun ray finish to catch the light and play with it. In fashion it contrasts dramatically with that of the lacquer. All of the indices, as well as the JL logo at 12 o'clock are applied.
You'll note the true second function, which beats in one second or one hertz increments, driven by the manufacture caliber 772 on the reverse side. The 772, constructed entirely in-house for the Geophysic line, features a number of unique measures, including a hacking balance that is discontinuous, which is to say the balance has a yoke-style design, with inset JL logos reminiscent of the company's own corporate marquee. This balance, known as the Gyrolab because of its gyrating motion, and the fact that it was pioneered on the 2007 Extreme Lab prototype series, reduces the aerodynamic resistance experienced by the balance within the air mass of the case. This improves the efficiency of the watch, extends the power reserve, and improves the chronometric performance of the time piece.
You'll also note the winding mass born on ceramic bearings at center. Completely unlubricated and sealed for life, they improve winding efficiency and reduce long-term service needs. The watch features a 40-hour power reserve, and because of the highly efficient unidirectional winding action of the winding mass, more efficient empirically than bidirectional, it tops itself off very quickly. Naturally the watch also features its dual time and true beat seconds. The true seconds occurring in one-hertz steps even though the balance itself operates at four hertz. Prior to the introduction of standard time, each municipality throughout the civilized world set its official clock, if it had one, according to the local position of the Sun .
