Thailand bike trip 2009

I spent a month volunteering as an English (TEFL) teacher on Koh yao Yai Island, Thailand in the year 2009. While I was there I borrowed a bicycle from a fellow teacher. This allowed me to explore the island a bit. I documented one of my longer bike trips. It wasn’t until recently that I purchased film editing software, and I thought “Bike Trip - Thailand, Koh yao Yai Island” would be a great first film to make. I hope you like it. I do apologize for the quality of the footage. The camera was quite basic and outdated. Please do leave some comments or feedback. Thanks for watching :) FILM TEXT: I’ll be going for a little bike ride today. I’m gonna be making video’s and such. Maybe, a few pictures. To get an idea of the Island. I’ll be starting where I live, obviously. So maybe we can check this place out. The road. Little shop next to me. Another clothing shop next to me. This is where I live. That’s the bicycle I’ll be using. That’s my neighbor. The school is over there. And then here’s a shop here on the right where I do all my shopping. So wish me luck and I’m gonna be traveling all the way down to the bottom of the Island. I reckon it’ll be about 40-50 Km. I hope I survive it. This is me on my bike. I just left, it’s about quarter to ten. I’m going down the hill pretty fast right now. I’ll be taking loads of breaks. Especially around noon, because well it gets really hot by then. The guy you see pulling off is my neighbor. I’m already exhausted, I haven’t been biking for at least 10 minutes I’d say. Anyways, over on the left you see palm trees. Palm tree plantation. Plus, in the middle of it, I think are baby rubber trees. Anyways, as you can see this place is absolutely gorgeous. I actually really like all these palm trees. I guess it’s a palm tree kind of plantation. It’s gorgeous. Coming to the little turn-up where there’s also a cute little house. I don’t know if you can see it there in the distance, but if I were to paint a picture I’d want it to look like that. This is one of the more rural areas if you wanna call it. It’s more than two houses in a row. There’s usually a lot of my students living here. I don’t see many though. Everybody always wants to say hi to me, except for now when I have a camera. We’re actually at a pretty active rubber plantation. Here you can see on the tree. What they do is they cut the bark a little bit and then it starts dripping down. I don’t know if you can see that little tout. They simply just turn over that little bucket and start catching the rubber. Apparently they do this really early in the morning. I’ve actually never seen them do it. I like this part because it’s kinda flat. So I’m not making any headway here at all. Morning! One of my students. I keep stopping to take pictures. At this rate I’m gonna be there by Tuesday. Wow, how’s this for a beautiful resort. I actually found some white people here, or should I say one red guy. He seems to be German of course. I guess this is the place to be if you’re a tourist. It really is gorgeous. We’re actually venturing into unknown territory for me. We just passed Esmeralda View. It’s gorgeous there, but I need all the energy I can get. So I’ve only been down here once with a scooter. Other than that never really before. I really hope the best. Finally, one of those guys… somebody said hello. I think I’m about half way. I’m about to die here. Noon is coming. The sun is coming down pretty straight. So, there’s not much shade anymore. I actually just met a Dutch couple. One of the few people… white people… Europeans or Westerners that I’ve seen so far. It figures they would be Dutch. Anyway it was nice talking to them. Well, I made it. I went through all the muck, but at least I didn’t get bit by a snake. Anyway, this place is beautiful. I think I’ll be taking my little break here. I found myself a nice little place in the shade. There seems to be a lot of trash here though. But not if I look that way. It’s quite gorgeous, as you can see. I’m really liking this view. I made myself a new little friend. Can you say “Sa wat dee ka”? Say Hello? Hello. Ah English, very good. I gave her an apple. She seems very happy now. Happy? “Sabai?” “Sabai Dee” I don’t know if you can see this swarm. These are all tiny little crabs. Kop khun kha Thank you. Bye-bye. Well I’ve reached the point where I’m not so sure if I know where I’m going anymore. But the good news is, there is no way I can get lost, it’s an island. A small island at that. So eventually I will just hit sea. Well, I made it to the pier on the other side of the Island. Pretty proud of myself. Pretty dehydrated. I hope you enjoyed the trip as much as I did. I’m really gonna miss this place.
