From Stanwell Park to Bittanagbee Bay, the unspoilt NSW South Coast is the perfect escape for a beach holiday. Unwind and relax on beautiful beaches, enjoy a range of water sports and swim in the sparkling ocean. You can even pat kangaroos on Pebbly Beach in Murramarang National Park.
Begin your discovery on the Grand Pacific Drive, a spectacular road trip south of Sydney dotted with the beaches of Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama. In the Killalea State Recreation Area are two National Surfing Reserve surf breaks – The Farm at Killalea Beach and Mystics at Minnamurra Beach.
Surf schools and surf safaris are available along the coast, with Australian Surf Tours and Pines Surfing Academy offering trips to The Farm. You can learn kiteboarding with Jervis Bay Kite Connections in Vincentia, where the White Sands Walk begins on some of the whitest sands in the world.
Other tours include stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkelling. Beach fishing is popular along the coast, too. You can hire a range of equipment, from fishing rods and kayaks to surfboards, boogie boards, stand-up paddleboards, wetsuits and bicycles for the wonderful coastal cycle ways.
You’ll find plenty things to do and see. Places to stay suit various budgets, from luxury retreats and beach houses to motels, holiday parks and camping sites. Check out the exciting events calendar of festivals, markets and shows in seaside towns. The Gerringong Surf Music Festival is in May.
The 138 km Grand Pacific Drive is part of the marvellous Sydney Melbourne Coastal Drive that weaves farther south to the white sands and dolphins of Jervis Bay and to the gorgeous beaches of Eurobodalla and the Sapphire Coast. You can watch whales migrate along the coast from headlands.
