Jenolan Caves

The Jenolan Caves are, without question, Australia's most impressive limestone caves. Situated in the Blue Mountains wilderness near the town of Oberon, 11 show caves are open to the public every day of the year, with spectacular lighting, underground rivers and cave formations, such as impressive stalactites, that inspire awe among visitors.

Tours run daily from Sydney and Katoomba, and there are a number of ways to tour this complex cave system, one of the largest such systems in the world. Choose from guided day or night tours, ghost tours and adventure caving. Concerts and other public events also often take place at Jenolan Caves throughout the year.

When you emerge from the caves, keep your eye out for native wildlife, including kangaroos and wallabies. (If you've got a really keen eye, you might catch a glimpse of the elusive platypus.) Also, be sure to check out Blue Lake, and you'll see how it came to have its name.
