In 2006, the City of Hammond started discharging it’s wastewater into the Manchac wetlands just south of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Consultants raved how this environmentally friendly project would help restore the declining wetlands. In turn, an 1100 year old marsh mat has been destroyed.
For years the city has not been able to treat the waste even at relaxed LDEQ limits. The city has made millions of dollars worth of improvements, but over 300 acres of wetlands have been altered from rooted vegetation to floating.
See in this video as we take a short walk in the marsh south of the discharge property. Then, we compare walking over a hundred yards in the control marsh.

Just Because (Jane's Addiction song)
"Just Because" is a song by the alternative rock band Jane's Addiction, which was released as the first single from their third album, Strays in 2003.
The song was one of the most successful in the band's history. It was the band's third #1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, it charted at #72 on the Billboard Hot 100 which is their only appearance on that chart to date. It is also their first top-ten entry on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, where it reached #4. It also reached #14 on the UK Singles Chart where it is the band's highest charting single.

The music video features the band playing in a dome shaped room with lights flashing all around the walls and ceilings.
In pop culture

Little Girl: 'This looks like a good place to put this letter Y. It's a letter that comes after X and just before Z. I bet Grover doesn't know what this letter is!'
Grover: 'Skedaddle... skedaddle... skaddle-UP! I bet you think Grover does not know what this letter is.'
Little Girl: 'Well, Grover, do you?'
Grover: 'No.'
Little Girl: 'I didn't think so.'
Grover: 'It's very pretty! It starts out with one line at the bottom and splits into two lines at the top.'
Little Girl: 'That's what it looks like. But what is this letter called?'
Grover: 'I do not know. Tell me.'
Little Girl: 'Y.' (sounds like 'Why?')
Grover: 'Because I want to know.'
