Cover Options

American Express Business Insurance provides simple, fixed price cover options that can help protect you and your business. In partnership with the insurer and underwriter ACE Insurance, American Express business insurance allows you to build your own cover.
The following section provides an overview of each cover option available. For terms, conditions and exclusions of this cover section, please refer to the American Express Business Insurance Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Business Owners Accidental Loss of Life and Serious Accident Cover

Covers the Business Owner for any accidental death or serious accidental bodily injury such as: quadriplegia, loss of limbs, eyesight, hearing or speech. The benefit paid is scaled according to the nature of the accidental bodily injury sustained.
This cover applies to accidents only. It does not cover you for sickness, your pre – existing medical conditions or post traumatic stress. This cover does not apply where you lose your life or have an accident as a result of self inflicted injury, suicide or criminal acts, intoxicating liquor or drugs, professional sport, motor sports or aviation.

Business Contents Cover

Covers the Business for damage to or loss of business property contents and devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops or printers. The amount payable is scaled as a percentage of the total benefit depending on the location of the Business Contents at the time of the loss and is subject to an excess of $200.
Certain types of business contents are not covered, for example: customer goods or floor stock, business vehicles or money. We will also not cover you under this section if the loss was caused by employee dishonesty (please note that this type of cover is provided under the Employee Theft, Dishonest or Fraudulent Conduct Cover section).

Employee Theft, Dishonest or Fraudulent Conduct Cover

Covers the Business against loss of Insured Property as a result of theft, dishonest or fraudulent conduct of an employee. E.g. theft of contents, computer hardware, records, documents, deeds, specifications, plans and even customer’s goods. Sub-limits and an excess payment of $500 applies.
Certain types of business property are not covered, for example: vehicles, electronic data or goods in transit. We will not cover you if the loss of your business property is caused by: your relatives or any contractor of your business.
We will also not cover you if the loss is only based on your business records or where the employee broke into your business.

Tax Audit Cover

Protects the business against external Professional Fees arising from tax audits on returns lodged by an external Tax Advisor (e.g. Accountants fees, legal advisors, etc) where the audit is initiated by government tax departments. An excess payment of $500 applies.

Monthly Business Expense Cover

Covers fixed monthly business expenses for up to 3 months such as rates, superannuation, employee salaries and telephone costs, in the event that you, the Business Owner, is unable to work for more than 30 consecutive days as a result of an accidental bodily injury or sickness.
We will not cover You for your monthly business expenses if you are unable to work resulting from things like: self-inflicted injury, suicide or criminal acts, intoxicating liquor or drugs, professional sport, motor sports, aviation, pre – existing medical conditions.

Business Owner's Personal Liability Cover

Covers the Business Owner on a worldwide basis for legal and compensation costs, up to $5 million in the aggregate, arising from personal injury or property damage caused by your personal actions as opposed to the company. Subject to a sub-limit on damage to a property temporarily in the Business Owner’s possession and an excess of $500 applies.
We will not cover you for certain types of third party personal injury or property damage connected with the operation of your business, for example: worker’s compensation claims, your employment practices, your work car, your business products, your business contracts, your business premises, or any professional advice you give. We will also not cover you for any property damage to your home.

Data Protection Cover

Protects the business for costs associated with unauthorised use or disclosure of confidential information and customer data. It includes cover for damages awarded and defence costs as a result of legal action. Sub-limits and an excess payment of $500 applies.
We will not cover you or your business for expenses due to a loss of data if the expenses are not ‘crisis costs’ (legal or tax advisor costs), reputation protection expenses or public relations expenses.
We will also not cover you or the business if the legal action for data loss is by someone that owns more than 20% in your business.

blue_tickProduct Eligibility Criteria

If you the Business Owner or your Business meets the following criteria, you may be eligible for the American Express Business Insurance: 

  1. The Business Owner is a natural person and an Australian resident over the age of eighteen (18) and not older than seventy-five (75) years of age at the time of application; and 
  2. The Business (including all subsidiaries) at the time of application and renewal:
  3. a. has less than 250 Employees; and

    b. a combined turnover of less than AUD $10 million; and

    c. not be involved in manufacturing, mining, or importation at any of their business locations.

What to do in the event of a claim

Advise all claims to us within 30 days of a claim event or as soon as reasonably practicable.

You must submit all supporting documentation, e.g. medical reports, police reports, declarations, receipts, valuations or other such evidence we may request to assist us in the prompt resolution of your claim.
