Serang

Serang municipality (Indonesian: Kota Serang) is the capital of Banten province and was formerly also the administrative center of Serang Regency in Indonesia (the Regency's capital is now at Baros). The city is located towards the north of Banten province. Before Banten province was formed in 2000 Serang was part of West Java province.

Serang has a tropical rainforest climate, with no dry season month. It faces the Java Sea, which is home to Thousand Islands.

Serang was reported as having a population of 576,961 in the 2010 census, making it the third most populous city in the province of Banten. The latest official population estimate (for January 2014) is 643,101. Serang is located approximately 15 km from the border of Jabodetabek and sometimes considered as amalgamated with the Greater Jakarta.

Transportation

The city is served by Serang Station, operated by Indonesia's rail operator PT Kereta Api.

The Merak-Tangerang Toll Road, part of the Trans-Java toll road, passes through the city of Serang.

Civil Service Police Unit

The Civil Service Police Unit, or in Indonesian known as Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP), is the Municipal police unit of Indonesia which is under the auspices of the local government and is operated by the Department of Home Affairs.

The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) are specifically different. The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) duties are to assist the local regional head (city and/or state) of the government affairs in the field of Security and Public order which is to enforce regulations of the region. This force is under the Department of Home Affairs.

The Indonesian National Police or POLRI duties are to law enforce, protection and serving of the people, investigation and prevention of crime, control disturbance and social deviation of an area (city, province/state, and country), response for public matters, etc. They are directly under the auspices of the president of the republic of Indonesia and do not represent from a particular governmental ministry/department.

Banten

Banten is the westernmost province on the island of Java, in Indonesia. The provincial capital city is Serang.

The population of Banten was officially estimated at 11,834,087 at the start of 2014, up from over 10.6 million during the 2010 census. Formerly part of the province of West Java, Banten became a separate province in 2000. The province is a transit corridor to the neighbouring Indonesian island of Sumatra.

Historically, it has had a culture distinct from the rest of Java and that of the broader Indonesian archipelago. In recent years, the northern half, particularly those areas near Jakarta and the Java Sea coast, have experienced rapid rises in population and urbanization, while the southern half, particularly that facing the Indian Ocean, maintains more of its traditional character.

History

In the 5th century, Banten was part of the Kingdom of Tarumanagara. The Lebak relic inscriptions, found in lowland villages on the edge of Ci Danghiyang, Munjul, Pandeglang, Banten, were discovered in 1947 and contains 2 lines of poetry with Pallawa script and Sanskrit language. The inscriptions speak of the courage of king Purnawarman. After the collapse of the Tarumanagara kingdom, due to an attack by Srivijaya, power in the western Java fell to the Kingdom of Sunda. The Chinese source, Chu-fan-chi, written circa 1225, Chou Ju-kua mentioned that in the early 13th Century, Srivijaya still ruled Sumatra, the Malay peninsula, and western Java (Sunda). The source identifies the port of Sunda as strategic and thriving, pepper from Sunda being among the best in quality. The people worked in agriculture and their houses were built on wooden poles (rumah panggung). However, robbers and thieves plagued the country. It was highly possible that the port of Sunda mentioned by Chou Ju-kua was probably refer to the port of Banten.

It is the largest island country in the world by the number of islands, with more than fourteen thousand islands. Indonesia's republican form of government includes an elected legislature and president. Indonesia has 34 provinces, of which five have Special Administrative status. Its capital city is Jakarta. The country shares land borders with Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and the Malaysian Borneo. Other neighbouring countries include Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, Palau, and the Indian territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Indonesia is a founding member of ASEAN and a member of the G-20 major economies. The Indonesian economy is the world's 16th largest by nominal GDP and the 8th largest by GDP at PPP.

International school

An international school is a school that promotes international education, in an international environment, either by adopting a curriculum such as that of the International Baccalaureate, Edexcel or Cambridge International Examinations, or by following a national curriculum different from that of the school's country of residence.

Overview

These schools cater mainly to students who are not nationals of the host country, such as the children of the staff of international businesses, international organizations, foreign embassies, missions, or missionary programs. Many local students attend these schools to learn the language of the international school and to obtain qualifications for employment or higher education in a foreign country.

History

The first international schools were founded in the latter half of the 19th century in countries such as Japan, Switzerland and Turkey. Early international schools were set up for families who traveled, like children of personnel of international companies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGO), and embassy staff. The schools were established with the people and organizations having large interests in the hosting nation: for instance, American diplomats and missionaries often set up schools to educate their children; children of American military and army families often attended Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS); French diplomats and business families founded similar schools based on the French curriculum.
