-In response to the February 16th police violence against protesters at the LUPE Tucson rally, including pepper-spraying elderly women and children, as well as the arrests of four innocent people now facing invented charges, All Bodies Rise Yoga will be hosting a fundraiser yoga class to help alleviate some of these legal fees. Please join us for a body positive, nurturing class at YogaOasis. Class is $7, however additional donations are welcomed. We have mats, just bring your amazing self and your stretchy clothes. All proceeds go directly to LUPE Tucson.-

"The National Guard would be used for a massive round-up and deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants, which Trump has pledged to do. The round-up would be based on Trump’s Jan. 25 executive order, which expands to the target of deportations to virtually at least eight of the 11 million undocumented."
Reminder: Meeting tonight, and every Monday night, at 5:30pm at the Global Justice Center 225 E 26th St (in the Derechos Humanos office).
"The National Lawyers Guild stands in support with the marchers who were arrested and brutalized at Lupe Tucson's Emergency Rally Contra ICE Raids on February 16. We are gravely concerned that the police targeted our Legal Observers with pepper spray while they attempted to film the police. The NLG is committed to upholding the rights of the people to gather and demonstrate, and our commitment continues after the rally is over."

The National Lawyers Guild stands ...in support with the marchers who were arrested and brutalized at Lupe Tucson's Emergency Rally Contra ICE Raids on February 16. We are gravely concerned that the police targeted our Legal Observers with pepper spray while they attempted to film the police. The NLG is committed to upholding the rights of the people to gather and demonstrate, and our commitment continues after the rally is over.
We are assisting in the defense for the people arrested at the rally, and we are asking for your help. If you were a witness, please send us an email at southernarizona@nlg.org with your full name and phone number, and a brief description of what you witnessed - we will follow up with you. If you have photos or video, please do not send that over email, but instead just send us your name and phone number, and a brief description of what is on your footage. We will be setting up a secure method for receiving and storing that footage, and we will contact you once that is established. In the meantime, store your footage somewhere safe, not in the cloud.
We are also looking into filing a civil rights lawsuit. If you were harmed by the police at the rally and are interested in being a plaintiff in a lawsuit, please send us your name and phone number. We are creating a legal team to handle this, and they will be in touch with you in the next few weeks.
TPD has suggested to people that they file internal complaints with them through the Office of Professional Standards. While everyone is free to pursue their own redress, the NLG does not feel that this is a beneficial avenue at this time and is concerned that statements made to the police might later end up being used against demonstrators. If you choose to file an internal complaint, please be mindful about how you name and reference others who were at the rally.
Southern Arizona NLG observed officers milling around at the end of the rally attempting to gather information from demonstrators. We want to remind people that the police are not taking your statements to help defend you or the others arrested. Further, because these statements are voluntary, you do not have to make them.
You do not ever have to talk to the police. If you have a police encounter, you can say:
"Am I free to leave?" If the answer is yes, you can walk away. If the answer is no, you have to give your name if asked, and the only other things you need to say are:
"I wish to remain silent."
"I want to speak to an attorney."
"I do not consent to search."
Those phrases and nothing more are your best protection.
Please email or call us at 520-477-2654 with questions.
In solidarity,

YWCA of Southern Arizona public statement regarding L.U.P.E action committee 2/16/17 protest against the nationwide ICE raids.
"YWCA of Southern Arizona fully supports the continued work and activism taking place throughout our country to protect the human rights all people, especially those whose futures are most at risk by the actions and rhetoric of our new president. Yesterday we made contact with Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus and Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and voiced o...ur concern regarding the reaction of TPD officers to a peaceful protest held in downtown Tucson on Thursday night. The protesters, which included the elderly and children, were expressing their opposition to a spike in ICE raids across the country and the actions being taken and threatened against our undocumented neighbors. This protest will no doubt be the first of many going forward, as we channel our fear, frustration and yes, anger, into action."

Four of our brothers and sisters are being detained over night. The narrative being pushed is that police officers were assaulted. THIS IS NOT TRUE.
