Andrew Rule tells Ross and John about how he nearly became a carjacking victim

Feb 21, 2017

He's spent a life writing about crime, but on Sunday night he nearly became a victim of it.

Andrew Rule from the Herald Sun was driving down Geelong Road shortly after 9.30am on Sunday night when he saw red and blue lights behind him.

He pulled into the emergency lane, assuming it was the police.

"I thought this is funny, I'm not speeding," Rule told Ross and John.

But things only got more concerning from there.

He says he nearly became a victim of an attempted carjacking.

A man, of Middle Eastern appearance and dressed in high-visibility clothing, came to the window of Rule's car and vaguely asked Rule if he lived in the area.

"As soon as I heard those words I thought this is a setup and he's trying to get close enough to grab the keys," Rule explained.

"I put the car into gear and took off."

You can read Andrew Rule's first-hand account in Wednesday's Herald Sun.
