UPDATE: Man still critical after Biggenden Meatworks accident

UPDATE 3.40PM: Earlier reports that the man involved in an accident at the Biggenden Meatworks had died were incorrect.

A spokesman from from Queensland Workplace Health and Safety told the NewsMail and the Brisbane Times the man had died but a Queensland Health spokeswoman has since confirmed the man is still in a critical condition at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

The Workplace Health and Safety spokesman said the man suffered head injuries when he was struck by a ramp while unloading pigs this morning.

"We'll be investigating this and looking at the systems at work, the incident itself, and how that ramp was situated," the spokesman said.

Inspectors have begun their investigations at the site.

The Biggenden Meatworks has taken down their Facebook post from this morning advising customers that the facility was closed for the day.

UPDATE 12.45: The man critically injured in an accident at the Biggenden Meatworks has been airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Queensland Ambulance Service issued a correction on social media after earlier stating he was taken to Bundaberg.

Queensland Ambulance Service received a call at 8.31am.

The worker in his late 30s or early 40s was rushed to Biggenden Hospital with head and facial injuries before being airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital.

WIN News reports the accident occurred at the Biggenden Meatworks when the man had his head caught in cattle ramps.

A spokeswoman at Biggenden Meatworks declined to comment but the meatworks stated on their Facebook page around 11am:

"We would like to advise our customers that the Meatworks is currently closed for on site business today.

"We apologise for any inconvenience, but we are offering our free delivery service if required.

"Payment for deliveries is cash only. Thankyou for your understanding."

More to come.
