The SPLC’s current legal work is focused on impact litigation in these areas: Immigrant Justice, Children’s Rights, LGBT Rights, Economic Justice, and Mass Incarceration. We do not handle any other matters at this time.
Because SPLC is not a general legal services organization, we do not accept individual legal cases. We do not have the legal staff to investigate, handle legal research, or provide advice or representation regarding individual legal cases. In addition, SPLC does not handle criminal matters.
If you believe that your legal problem falls within the work of one of our practice areas, please submit your request below.
We will review your request for assistance but due to the large volume of requests we receive, the legal staff will NOT be able to respond personally to every written request received. If you do not receive a response within a month of your submission, you should assume that we are unable to provide the assistance you are seeking.
Please note, that all legal claims have time deadlines. These deadlines may be different depending on the nature of the legal claim, the persons who violate your rights, and which particular rights were violated. For some kinds of violations, you may need to file a notice or pursue other administrative remedies with a government agency before you can file suit in court. These administrative procedures also have their own time deadlines. If you do not comply with the applicable time deadlines, you could be legally barred from pursuing your claim in court.
Contacting the SPLC to describe your problem does not mean that SPLC attorneys represent you, and contacting the SPLC does not stop these time deadlines from running. The SPLC cannot provide you with advice about which time deadlines might apply to your particular situation. To ensure that your rights are protected, you may need to consult an attorney promptly to find out what time deadlines may apply in your case. Please see the list of potential resources below.
While we do not know if they will be able to help, we strongly suggest that you reach out to your state bar association or state legal services, if appropriate, to locate an attorney to provide the assistance you are seeking. Depending on your legal problem, you may possibly find help by contacting one of the other resources below.
