Valles Marineris (Latin for Mariner Valleys, named after the Mariner 9 Mars orbiter of 1971–72 which discovered it) is a system of canyons that runs along the Martian surface east of the Tharsis region. At more than 4,000 km (2,500 mi) long, 200 km (120 mi) wide and up to 7 km (23,000 ft) deep, the Valles Marineris rift system is one of the largest canyons of the Solar System, surpassed only by the rift valleys of Earth.
Valles Marineris is located along the equator of Mars, on the east side of the Tharsis Bulge, and stretches for nearly a quarter of the planet’s circumference. The Valles Marineris system starts in the west with Noctis Labyrinthus; proceeding to the east are Tithonium and Ius chasmata, then Melas, Candor and Ophir chasmata, then Coprates Chasma, then Ganges, Capri and Eos chasmata; finally it empties into an outflow channel region containing chaotic terrain that ends in the basin of Chryse Planitia.
It has been recently suggested that Valles Marineris is a large tectonic "crack" in the Martian crust. Most researchers agree that this formed as the crust thickened in the Tharsis region to the west, and was subsequently widened by erosion. However, near the eastern flanks of the rift, there appear to be some channels that may have been formed by water or carbon dioxide.

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second smallest planet in the Solar System, after Mercury. Named after the Roman god of war, it is often referred to as the "Red Planet" because the iron oxide prevalent on its surface gives it a reddish appearance. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, having surface features reminiscent both of the impact craters of the Moon and the valleys, deserts, and polar ice caps of Earth.
The rotational period and seasonal cycles of Mars are likewise similar to those of Earth, as is the tilt that produces the seasons. Mars is the site of Olympus Mons, the largest volcano and second-highest known mountain in the Solar System, and of Valles Marineris, one of the largest canyons in the Solar System. The smooth Borealis basin in the northern hemisphere covers 40% of the planet and may be a giant impact feature. Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos, which are small and irregularly shaped. These may be captured asteroids, similar to 5261 Eureka, a Mars trojan.
Electric Universe is a psychedelic trance project from Germany formed by Boris Blenn and Michael Dressler in 1991. Their first EP release, Solar Energy was an instant hit with the underground trance scene and is often credited with putting the Spirit Zone Recordings label at the forefront of psychedelic trance early on. According to The Sofia Echo, they were "hailed in the 1990s as one of the top psychedelic trance projects to come out of Germany".
The Electric Universe project was founded in 1991 by Boris Blenn and Michael Dressler in Hamburg, Germany. After being inspired by the first big Voov Experience in Sprötze, the first Psy Trance orientated tracks were produced, with just 5 pieces of equipment. These were two synthesizers, one sampler, a mixing desk and an Atari 1080. Some of the tracks found their way into the hands of DJ Antaro, who had just started his record label Spirit Zone. He liked the stuff and decided to release the Electric Universe Solar Energy maxi single as the second release on his label. It turned out to be a big hit and set the ground for the first album One Love in 1994.

This video is a computer-generated flythrough of the grandest canyon in the solar system, Valles Marineris. It was created by the Solar System Visualization team (SSV) at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. The project was a collaboration with Phil Christensen of Arizona State University, and was designed to show off a mosaic of infrared imagery of the Valles Marineris region gathered by the THEMIS instrument. The visualization uses colorized imagery from Mars Odyssey's THEMIS instrument combined with a digital elevation model gathered from the MOLA instrument on the Mars Global Surveyor. Thus, two separate Mars orbiters were used to create the most realistic flythrough of the grand canyon of Mars as possible. There is vertical exaggeration used in the video, bu...
https://www.youtube.com/THORnews Planet Mars has a giant gash in the middle of it's equator. It's massive and covers a 1/3 of Mars' face. How did that happen? Orion fired his bow to defend the Pleiades sisters? Poseideon threw his Trident? Tectonic action? An Electric Universe? War between Earth and Mars? It is an unsolved mystery. A total puzzle. So come along on this THORnews adventure and let us see what Martian booty we can dig up. From Wikipedia (cuz Einstein told me to Google it) (Latin for Mariner Valleys, named after the Mariner 9 Mars orbiter of 1971–72 which discovered it) is a system of canyons that runs along the Martian surface east of the Tharsis region. The most stupendous feature on Mars is Valles Marineris, the great trench stretching more than 3000 miles across the Martian surface. In the 1970’s the engineer Ralph Juergens first proposed that Valles Marineris is the scar left by a giant, interplanetary lightning bolt. If these events did occur, can they be replicated in experiments on Earth? Within the electric universe community, this challenge is now being met by those exploring the theory of planetary electrical scarring. Recently, geologic researcher Michael Steinbacher and experimentalist Billy Yelverton have collaborated to replicate the complex conditions that might have been present in an epoch of planetary instability. We asked Michael and Billy to provide an introduction to their collaboration, including BIlly's recent reprod...
This animation created from stereo imagery taken by the Mars Express orbiter shows a flyover the region around the Chasmata Melas, Candor and Ophir in the central part of Valles Marineris. Chasma (plural: Chasmata) is a Greek term for deep canyons on Mars and Venus with steep cliffs. Speaker: Jessica Flahaut, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam Abstract: Valles Marineris is a unique vertical section through the uppermost kilometers of the martian crust; its location, east of Tharsis bulge, and its water-related history are responsible for a great diversity of rock types in this area. High resolution morphological (HiRISE) and mineralogical (CRISM) data from the MRO mission (NASA, 2006) available over the area were investigated. The walls of the canyons, the surrounding plateaus as well as the interior layered deposits were looked at in details as they were formed as the result of different processes. Their differences in aspect and composition were used to propose a chronology of events and a reconstitute the geological history of the area between 4.2 and 2 Gy.
The Martian wind sways the dunes of Mars. And its polar caps change with the seasons. Which are the main attractions of the Red Planet? We'll find out in this travel Guide to Mars. the largest volcano in the solar system. A huge canyon. After much deliberation, we made the decision to release this full documentary. Year by year the evidence for global electric scarring of Mars continues to grow. Bringing the facts to public attention will be among our highest priorities in coming months. Note: all of the Mars imagery involves actual maps from Google Mars. In Episode 2 Symbols of an Alien Sky: The Lightning Scarred Planet, Mars, David Talbott takes the viewer on an odyssey across the surface of Mars. Exploring feature after feature of the planet, he finds that only electric arcs could produce the observed patterns. The high resolution images reveal massive channels and gouges, great mounds, and crater chains, none finding an explanation in traditional geology but all matching the scars from electric discharge experimen...
A fascinating tour through our solar sytem, based on NASA's Science on a Sphere program "The Wanderers". Whole subtitles: In ancient times, humans watched the skies looking for clues to their future and to aid in their very survival. They soon observed that some stars were not fixed, but moved in the sky from night to night. They called these stars the wanderers. At the center of our solar system is the sun, binding the planets with its gravitational pull. From our viewpoint on earth, the sun appears small in the sky, but in reality it dwarfs even Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system. The distance from the sun to the small worlds traveling it are vast. Light takes eight minutes to reach earth, and nearly a day to reach the farthest known bodies. Join us now as we tour...

Mars Documentary, is there real life on Mars (Full Documentary)? http://science.nationalgeographic.com/science/space/solar-system/mars-article/ The Red Planet Mars is a small rocky body once thought to be very Earthlike. Like the other terrestrial planets—Mercury, Venus, and Earth—its surface has been changed by volcanism, impacts from other bodies, movements of its crust, and atmospheric effects such as dust storms. It has polar ice caps that grow and recede with the change of seasons; areas of layered soils near the Martian poles suggest that the planet's climate has changed more than once, perhaps caused by a regular change in the planet's orbit. Martian tectonism, the formation and change of a planet's crust, differs from Earth's. Where Earth tectonics involve sliding plates that g...
