A 50-year-old cyclist has passed away in hospital after a collision with a car in Chapel Hill early on Friday morning.

The bicycle rider was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition with head injuries, but died on Saturday.

The crash happened on Moggill Road in Chapel Hill, with police closing one inbound lane between the Kenmore tavern and Chapel Hill Road during the morning.

About four hours after the crash there were only minor delays left, after traffic stretched seven kilometres back down the road during the peak congestion.

Meanwhile the 21-year-old car driver, reportedly a P-plater, was not injured and remained at the crash scene assisting police with their inquiries.
