Japanese festival sees thousands of men get naked

The men were taking part in Hadaka Matsuri - or the Naked Man Festival - which takes place every year at the Saidaiji Kannon-in temple in Okayama City in western Japan. The men shoved each other for more than an hour on Saturday night in hopes of retrieving the lucky batons, thrown by a priest into the crowd. The sacred batons - measuring 4cm in diameter and 20cm in length - are believed to bring good luck for an entire year to whoever catches them. A rescue operation has been launched to free a large cargo ship that is lodged in icy wasteland off the coast of Russia. The wrecked and abandoned Yeruslan cargo ship is currently trapped in the Amur Bay waters. A large team were pumping water from the ship (inset), with her stern nearly completely underwater and her bow lifted off the surface (main image).Thieves were blamed after the cargo ship trapped became trapped in the ice-covered bay and burst into flames. The Cambodian ship has been stuck in the ice near the far-eastern Russian city of Vladivostok.
