This is bollocks. When Chinese delegations visit ⁦⁩ I repeatedly draw attention to China’s lack of lending transparency. Now they’ll have the perfect comeback. And they’ll be right: Details of $442m PNG loan kept secret ⁦

What the heck? I literally don't know a single Australian company dealing with China that doesn't take into account political and sovereign risk! After all, its their capital on the line. And sometimes Australian businesses manage it by not dealing with China at all.

There’s sure some irony in commentators with zero capital at risk giving businesses in the Australia-China corridor risk management advice. And it’s the government’s job to protect the national interest, balancing the full range of sectoral views.

It seems like on all fronts of Australia’s Chinese interference debate, a deep breath is called for. And no, that’s not to dismiss the risks. But let’s also not let a predetermined narrative drive the interpretation of every data point.

Six in 10 Australians consider China to be the country’s most important economic partner, with just two in 10 putting the US first, a new survey has found. But just 28 per cent of Australians are confident Beijing will do the right thing regarding our economic interests.

I welcome another research project dealing with China relations being funded by the US State Department. As long as it is transparent then it can only be construed as influence, not interference. And more data to inform Australian decision-making is preferable to less.

This is fantastic news reporting on recent Australia-China developments. Sorry to sound shocked but the consistent use of qualifiers like “alleged” and the balanced array of commentators is all too rare!

This quote from Peter Hartcher, the political and international editor, appears to call for discrimination against Chinese migrants from the PRC because they may be “subversive”. I wonder how widespread this view is?

We are sceptical of Mr Wang Liqiang's 王立强 claims & credibility. If he was later discredited, it could undermine the public’s trust in Australian media, selected political leaders, and damage Australia’s ongoing counter foreign interference efforts.
