Air Diver

Air Diver: F-119 Stealth Fighter Simulation (エアダイバー) is a combat flight simulator video game released by Seismic (Asmik Ace Entertainment in Japan) in April 1990 for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console. It is notable as being one of the two first third party published titles for the console in North America. A follow-up, Super Air Diver was released exclusively for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System years later.

Summary

This video game is a combat flight simulator similar to After Burner, except the game is played in a first-person view (from inside the cockpit). Gameplay involves flying the fictional F-119D Stealth Fighter against the enemy forces. A terrorist organization stationed out of the Middle East is waging a constant battle against U.S. forces; backed by several hostile governments including the Soviet Union (Although the back of the US package says that the terrorists are backed by extraterrestrial beings). Players must use their stealth abilities in order to evade detection and create a global free society out of a world tormented by the oppressive anti-American regimes.

Orient

The Orient means the East. It is a traditional designation for anything that belongs to the Eastern world or the Middle East (aka Near East) or the Far East, in relation to Europe. In English, it is largely a metonym for, and coterminous with, the continent of Asia. In France and other countries of Western Europe, it also denominates the countries of North Africa.

Derivation

The term "Orient" derives from the Latin word oriens meaning "east" (lit. "rising" < orior " rise"). The use of the word for "rising" to refer to the east (where the sun rises) has analogs from many languages: compare the terms "Levant" (< French levant "rising"), "Vostok" Russian: Восток (< Russian voskhod Russian: восход "sunrise"), "Anatolia" (< Greek anatole), "mizrahi" in Hebrew ("zriha" meaning sunrise), "sharq" Arabic: شرق‎ (< Arabic yashriq يشرق "rise", shurūq Arabic: شروق‎ "rising"), "shygys" Kazakh: шығыс (< Kazakh shygu Kazakh: шығу "come out"), Turkish: doğu (< Turkish doğmak to be born; to rise), Chinese: 東 (pinyin: dōng, a pictograph of the sun rising behind a tree) and "The Land of the Rising Sun" to refer to Japan. Also, many ancient temples, including pagan temples and the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem, were built with their main entrances facing the East. This tradition was carried on in Christian churches. To situate them in such a manner was to "orient" them in the proper direction. When something was facing the correct direction, it was said to be in the proper orientation.

Orient Watch

Orient Watch Company, Limited (オリエント時計株式会社, Oriento Tokei Kabushikigaisha) is a manufacturer of luxury mechanical watches. Orient Watch was founded in Hino, Tokyo, Japan (13 July 1950). Since 2001, it has been a subsidiary of Seiko Epson Corporation (the one of three core companies of the Seiko Group) and became a wholly owned subsidiary in 2009.

The main product of Orient Watch is mechanical watches (self-winding & hand-winding), but it also produces some quartz, light-powered (solar), and radio-controlled watches. Outside of the main business, the company produces some moving parts and electronic components that are then assembled into Seiko Epson's electronic devices.

The company manufactures all of its movements in-house in Japan.

History

The origin of Orient Watch Company dates back to 1901 when Shogoro Yoshida opened a wholesale shop called "Yoshida Watch Shop" in Ueno, Taito, Tokyo, Japan. Yoshida Watch Shop was successful, selling imported pocketwatches. In 1912, Yoshida expand his business and began producing gold wristwatch cases. In 1920, Toyo Tokei Manufacturing was established, originally producing table clocks and gauges. It was not until 1934 that Toyo Tokei Manufacturing started the production of wristwatches. in 1936, the Hino Factory was built in Hino, Tokyo, Japan. For several years, Toyo Tokei Manufacturing boomed at the Hino Factory. However, affected by the poor Japanese economy after World War II, the company shut down in 1949.
