Nick joined the Police Accountability Project in October 2015 primarily working on our civil litigation matters but also taking on cases involving discrimination, Freedom of Information cases, criminal defence and Coronial Inquests.

Nick previously worked at Robinson Gill Lawyers where he practised in personal injury law , police accountability litigation, civil litigation on behalf of survivors of child sexual assault and representing survivors at the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Nick is  a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Australian Lawyers Alliance. He is slowly making his way through a Masters of Law at the Australian National University.

Bec has taken a particular interest in the areas of policing, prisons and discrimination, with a focus on supporting young people in her work over the last 15 years.

Bec is co-author of – ‘Boys, you wanna give me some action?’ Interventions into Policing of Racialised Communities in Melbourne (2011) and Safe Spaces: A toolkit for dealing with police/youth conflict (2012), as well as the Racial & Religious Discrimination, Vilification & Harassment Project report (2007). and was the Project Worker for the Visioning Justice Project broadcast on 3CR radio.

Bec has worked in a range of community development and project roles at Fitzroy Legal Service, Western Suburbs Legal Service and Springvale Monash Legal Service as well as outreach casework in family violence, youth arts & diversionary programs in Alice Springs and Warburton.

Tamar has been described as a “committed and very gutsy” practitioner. She has focused on police complaints and racial profiling for over 9 years.

Experienced in civil litigation, discrimination law, human rights law, freedom of information, and criminal defence.  In 2008 Tamar was awarded a Victorian Law Foundation Fellowship to study police complaint mechanisms and strategies for providing remedies for victims of human rights abuse by police in the US, Canada and UK.  She has published numerous articles and reports on policing and human rights.

In 2010 Tamar was awarded the Law Institute of Victoria’s Community Lawyer of the Year for her work on police issues.   In 2013 Tamar was a finalist for the Human Rights Law Award for outstanding contribution to the advancement of human rights in Australia.

Sophie joined the Centre’s Police Accountability Project in September 2013, taking on some of our most complex and long running, inquests, civil litigation, discrimination and criminal defence cases.

Previously, Sophie was Social Justice Solicitor at Shine Lawyers Ltd, Litigation lawyer at Corrs Chambers Westgarth, and Secondee Lawyer at Public Interest Law Clearing House.  She has been Co-Chair of the Editorial Committee – Young Lawyers Journal at Law Institute of Victoria.

Anthony has over 25 years experience in human rights advocacy, strategic social justice campaigning and community development. He was Coordinator of the Men’s Referral Service for 7 years, Policy Officer with the Federation of Community Legal Centres, and Training Coordinator with the Youth Referral and Independent Person Program (YRIPP).

Anthony was co-founder of Peace Brigades International – Australia, an associate with the Change Agency and a campaigner, trainer and consultant with over 40 Australian and international social change campaigns.
