OCEAN FOODS (Drummoyne)

Ocean Foods in Drummoyne has consistently won the title of ‘Best Fish and Chips in Sydney’ and it’s not difficult to see why. The line out the door is a testament to the quality of the produce that Ocean Foods use and how they prepare their fish. If you love your seafood, then come here, but be warned; if you’re here at dinner time, you will be waiting a while. Order ahead or online to streamline the process.

FISH & CO (Forest Lodge)

Fish & Co. pride themselves on only serving ethically sourced and sustainable produce in a range of international flavours. Their new location at the Tramsheds in Forest Lodge is larger, with plenty of space for dining in the chic, new interior. The chefs are truly passionate about what ends up on your plate, so expect the best. If you’re after something lowkey, grab your fish and chips to go with the panko crumbed New Zealand hake for something different.

FAT FISH (Annandale)

A humble fish shop with salad and burgers also on offer, at Fat Fish you can go gourmet or traditional. Salt and pepper calamari, Greek style barbeque octopus or grilled sea scallops are all delicious, but so are your standard fried and battered prawn cutlets, fish cocktails or beer battered fish. Owners and brothers, John and Manny Notaras, collect their produce daily from the Sydney Seafood Markets and as third generation fishmongers, they know exactly what they’re doing.

FISH-A-LICIOUS (Alexandria)

Family-owned Fish-a-Licious in Alexandria serve only the best fish and chips and seafood. Choose from a variety of packs including battered fish, chips and salad, the seafood basket or family megapack. If you’re not up for a big meal, you might be in the wrong place, but you can order the grilled prawns or baby octopus. Save room for their homemade desserts; deep-fried ice-cream or rice pudding. Both are to die for!

BLISS & CHIPS (Newtown)

Here’s one for the vegans and vegetarians, though you may’ve given up on meat, you can still enjoy ‘fish’ and chips at Bliss & Chips in Newtown.  Not only are the filets made of imitation meat, the potatoes and almost the entire menu is also gluten free, so you can bring even the pickiest of eaters here. We love the deep-fried crabsticks, though we’re equally as perplexed regarding their contents as we are at a regular fish and chip shop!
