Implementing the National Disability Insurance Scheme
The National Disability Insurance Scheme will transform economic and social opportunities for Australians with disability.
We have been working closely with the Department of Social Services and with states to finalise arrangements for the scheme to be rolled out around Australia. The Prime Minister has signed transition agreements with the Premiers of NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.
The Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership
The Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership brings together business and community leaders to promote philanthropic giving and investment in Australia. It is chaired by the Prime Minister, with the Minister for Social Services as Deputy Chair. We work with the Department of Social Services to support this partnership.
Supporting the arrival and settlement of Syrian and Iraqi refugees
In September 2015, the Government announced Australia would take an additional 12,000 refugees fleeing conflicts in Syria and Iraq.
We are supporting the arrival and settlement of the refugees through our work with the Departments of Immigration and Border Protection and Social Services.
Improving the sustainability of the welfare system
Working with the Department of Social Services and other relevant departments we are focussing on a new Investment Approach to Welfare which will develop and evaluate policy interventions in the social security system, with the aim of reducing welfare dependence and improving the lifetime wellbeing of people and families in Australia.
