Peer Mentors - Pilot Peer Mentoring Program

EDV and the Austin Hospital are working together to develop, pilot and evaluate a peer mentoring program for people with eating disorders exiting hospital programs. The goal of this program is to ensure that people with eating disorders leaving inpatient units and intensive day programs can better sustain their recovery outcomes in the long term.

This pilot program will use a peer support model, harnessing the experience of people who have recovered from eating disorders, with regular de-briefing and supervision. Participants in the program will be matched with a trained EDV Peer Mentor who has recovered from an eating disorder and will participate in a 6 month long semi-structured mentoring program with regular activities and one-on-one mentoring in the community (up to three hours per fortnight).

EDV is currently seeking Peer Mentors who have a personal experience of an eating disorder and want to support others in recovery. To be successful in this role, candidates require the ability and willingness to discuss their own past experiences and recovery from an eating disorder in the context of supporting someone who has recently undergone treatment, and have a strong commitment to peer support. A passion and commitment to working with people with eating disorders and a recovery-focused outlook are essential.

We are also interested in finding out whether being a Peer Mentor has a positive impact on your quality of life. Candidates appointed to this role will have an opportunity to participate in the evaluation of the program by providing feedback on their experiences throughout the program.
