From the slapstick to the downright idiotic, some of the most hilarious 'life fails' have been doing the rounds on Snapchat recently. US surgeons have successfully performed a face transplant on a man who shot himself in the jaw in a failed suicide bid. Andy Sandness, 31, from Wyoming, had the 56-hour operation at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota last year, 10 years after failing to take his life. He was first allowed to see his new face in June after three weeks of recovery at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, and his first response was to write down, 'far exceeded my expectations'. His friend of a decade, Dr Samir Mardini, who led the surgical team, told him that 'You don't know how happy that makes us feel'. His new face once belonged to 21-year-old father-to-be, Calen Ross, who shot himself before his wedding in June. Sandness is pictured left before the failed suicide bid, inset before the face transplant operation, and right eight months after the operation.

The elephant was put down by park rangers at the Chobe National Park in Botswana. Heartbreaking footage shows his friends watching over his body, with one elephant stroking him with his trunk. Dog fighting was banned in Afghanistan after the Taliban labelled it 'un-Islamic', but the sport is now experiencing a resurgence in the country. Many dog owners attend weekly fights in the Paghman district of Kabul. The hulking dogs risk great injury but do not usually fight until death. Often the battle will only finish when one dog pins another, or one runs away. He wants to raise the profile of rescue dogs along the way and is aiming to raise $20,000 to cover his expenses on the 2,200 mile journey.
