In 2015/16 the CBF provided $16.7 million in funding support to 230 community broadcasting organisations and 823 program production groups. In that year 79% of all grant applications received were successful.

Categories
Development & Operations grants
Development & Operations grants aim to maintain, expand and/or strengthen the operations and broadcast capabilities of Australian community broadcasting stations through core support, support for development projects and support for necessary infrastructure.
Content grants
Content grants aim to support the development, production and distribution of original content via Australian community radio and/or television broadcasters and associated platforms.
Emergency grants
Funds are available to assist stations to replace damaged or destroyed essential equipment and related immediate expenses in order to restore basic transmission following an unforeseen event such as flood, bushfire, lightning, accidental damage or major equipment failure not reasonably anticipated by technicians and station personnel that prevents the station from broadcasting.
