For some, missing out on the traditional end of year family gatherings is more of a blessing than a curse. For others, working while your friends are socialising is worth it once that public holiday pay starts rolling in. Whatever your reason for wanting to land a job as a Christmas casual, there are sure to be businesses looking for staff.
Remember that the Christmas rush starts in late November, so it's a good idea to start looking for roles from early November onwards. Why not use this opportunity to brush up on some extra skills for your CV? If you've always wanted to be a chef then why not try a kitchen hand position to see what it's like? Or if you're interested in publishing then try a stint in a book shop to get a feel for the industry. Most Christmas casual positions that come up will be in retail. It's not a bad idea to ask in the shops you usually buy your clothes from. You'll already have an idea of the type of customer and ethos of the brand.
As always, you'll need to work hard, be diligent and have a great work ethic to make your foray into working as a Christmas casual a success. At this time of year the crowds will swell with frantic shoppers so be prepared to get very busy and deal with a few more difficult customers than usual. It's also a fun time to be working and if you're in retail it's a great chance to be able to pop out and do Christmas shopping during your lunch breaks.
