White Night: a survivor's checklist

We've learned a lot covering White Night over the years, so here's our list of must-carry items for those who hope to survive the experience.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Scott Williams said there was a slight chance the city could get one-to-two millimetres of rain on Saturday afternoon, but the rain was expected to ease before 9pm.

He said the best time to venture out into the CBD was between 10pm and midnight.

"About 10pm to 12am is as good as any with temperatures up around 16 degrees and the rain should have cleared up by then," he said.

Mr Williams said the city would experience a fairly cool overnight low of 11 degrees.

"We're only expecting today's top to reach 20 degrees, and tomorrow morning's minimum is 11 between 5am and 6am.

"For those who do try and stick it out until then, it will get pretty chilly.

"There will be fairly light winds to about 10 km/h this evening and it will start to freshen up about day break with the temperature dropping off so by midnight it will be 14 degrees, then dropping to 11 at 6am."

He said at sundown the city would still be a cool 17 degrees.

"So certainly a cool evening but mainly dry through the night," Mr Williams said.

Showers are expected to pick up again about 9am on Sunday morning.
