Netflix released the trailer for its new series 'Dear White People' on YouTube Wednesday. By Friday afternoon, it had garnered over 280,000 dislikes.

The clip begins with a monologue from Samantha White, played by Logan Browning:

"Dear white people, here's a list of acceptable Halloween costumes: pirate, slutty nurse, any of our first 43 presidents. Top of the list of unacceptable costumes? Me."

A montage of people in black face follows suit.

Netflix says the tv show satirizes "'post-racial' America as students of color navigate a predominantly white Ivy League college." The series is based on Justin Simien's Sundance film of the same name.

Following the trailer's release, YouTubers were quick to comment their disapproval of the series. Some claimed the show was "racist" and threatened to cancel their Netflix subscriptions. The hashtag #BoycottNetflix later materialized on Twitter.

Simien spoke to Entertainment Tonight and thanked "white supremacists" for helping to promote the show.

"For me, it was really profound, encouraging in a weird way," Simien told the site. "It just brought more attention to the series."

ET has since taken down the article, although it is still viewable on Yahoo.

Despite the dislikes, the trailer has nearly 2.3 million views on YouTube. Watch the show for yourself on April 28, when "Dear White People" makes its Netflix debut.
