Then and Now: Cornwall Road/Blenheim Gardens
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
c 1910 A scene showing the Post Sorting Office on Cornwall Road, which ran from Brixton Hill to Lyham Road. The poster nearest the camera advertises a series of music hall acts, including one Tom Leamore, who used to wow crowds with his big hit, "Hi! Hi! Hi! I thought she was so shy" Note the pub sign just past the sorting office.

July 2003 The fine, red-brick building is still in use by the Post Office, with the road being renamed Blenheim Gardens in 1936. The west end of the road was demolished in the 1960s and is covered by a low rise housing estate. The pub survives as 'The Windmill' and despite its somewhat dilapidated appearance, is a fine and much loved music venue.
