| UpdatedThe Australian Sugar Milling Council has labelled talk of a 'sugar strike' as disappointing, and threats of more government intervention in the ongoing marketing dispute as 'unhelpful'. Chief executive Dominic Nolan says progress is being made in the commercial negotiations between sugar giant, Wilmar, and Queensland Sugar Limited, and it should be left to the two parties to get on with it.

| UpdatedTwo and a half years on, since Australia's largest sugar producer signalled its intention to exit the industry's sugar pool, there is still no resolution in sight between sugar milling company, Wilmar, and its 1500 or so growers. New sugar laws in Queensland have failed to deliver growers the choice in marketing they were promised it would. Federal agricultural minister Barnaby Joyce met late last year with Wilmar and warned he was prepared to act if the sugar milling giant was not able to find a solution of its own to the continuing deadlock.

| UpdatedQueensland Sugar Limited says its deal with Tully Sugar is a significant breakthrough as the industry moves to a new paradigm next season. The on-supply agreement will allow Tully growers to market raw sugar through QSL... and QSL gets a greater share of the Australia's $1.6 billion sugar pool. But there's still one piece of the sugar pie missing? Australia's largest sugar producer Wilmar is yet to reach an agreement. QSL chief executive Greg Beashel told Craig Zonca negotiations are continuing, but the deal with Tully is a major step forward.

| UpdatedA new collective cane supply agreement in Tully, in far north Queensland, is being welcomed as the start of a new era of choice in sugar marketing in Queensland. The contract ends a year-long impasse between the COFCO-owned Tully sugar mill and its growers, after the company exited the industry's longstanding sugar pool run by Queensland Sugar Limited. Chairman of Tully Canegrowers Tom Harney says the deal ensures growers get a choice of sugar marketer and is good for the future of the industry.
