The NSW Rural Fire Service has told residents in the Widgiewa Road area in Carwoola to watch and act as a fast moving grass fire between Queanbeyan and Captains Flat burns east towards Whiskers Hill.
NSWRFS spokesperson Paul Best said people in the Widgiewa Road area should obey all instructions from firefighters, with five trucks already in attendance and firefighting aircraft on the way.
There is currently a total fire ban in the ACT and immediate NSW region, with a severe fire warning in place as Canberra expects a 35 degree high.
