As biosecurity authorities respond to a sixth aquaculture farm which has tested positive for white spot disease in prawns, both the industry and government say they cannot be sure the virus can be eradicated. Six of the eight farms near the Logan River have now been confirmed to have the virus; one other currently has no stock and another is the only farm to remain free of white spot. Queensland Minister Bill Byrne says he stands ready to assist further, but is still waiting for a formal proposal for a cost sharing Deed of Arrangement with the federal government and industry.
