Something that came up last year in my journalism class was that perhaps newspapers need to consider changing their model, i.e. towards something more like the Guardian Weekly — less a source of immediate breaking news and providing more analysis/investigative journalism. (And hopefully keep reviews etc.)

I suppose the issue would be convincing people to invest in something like that, though… and making it significantly different from what a Saturday paper offers now.
