Bring a date down to the lake for this captivating international romance story based on extraordinary true events.

In 1947, Seretse Khama, the King of Botswana (David Oyewlowo, Selma, The Help), met Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl), a London office worker. They were a perfect match, yet their proposed marriage was challenged not only by their families but by the British and South African governments.

During a time of South African apartheid, the government there opposed the idea of a biracial couple ruling a neighboring country, and threatened the British: either thwart the couple, or be denied access to South African uranium and gold, and face the risk of South Africa invading Botswana.

“A very likeable film about two very admirable people.” – The Independent

“A real-life fairytale romance, which delivers both a heartfelt emotional story and a grim lesson in 20th-century British foreign policy.” – Screen International
