I'm the deputy reviews editor for Polygon. This means that I play lots of video games and write lots of words about them. It's pretty rad.

Ethics Disclosure:
I worked as a freelance contractor for Natsume in 2009, editing the script for Harvest Moon DS: Sunshine Islands. I back the following creators on Patreon: Mattie Brice, Arielle Grimes, Hardcore Gaming 101, Void Burger, Carolyn PetitGames do not start at a 10 and then get deducted points for each issue. I do not think the gameplay is shallow, just less deep than some other games. Very big difference there, and as I stated, I think it works to Horizon’s benefit mostly.
1,600 words is more detailed than most our reviews, but also a 10 does not = "perfect" on our scale. Sorry!
Re: hacking robots, I didn’t make a ton of use of this, which is why I didn’t mention it, but I also had no problems doing it when I tried.
I did mention that there is less depth/more approachability than other games in this style (i.e. Monster Hunter), but I don’t feel that strongly detracted from the game.
I don’t get the "can’t plan ahead" complaint at all. But either way, the game provides plenty of space for changing up tactics on the fly.
No clue! If they’ve announced any, it’s not obvious where it would slot into the game or anything.
I played it on a regular PS4 and the performance was more or less flawless for me.
Bad news: You have to deal with focus vision to see footsteps. I am sorry! (But once you see them, you can highlight and see them outside of focus vision too.)
Wha? This is well above our average review length. We try to keep most reviews around 1,000 words; this one is over 1,600.
I’d rather not say more for fear of spoiling any of the surprise
Nier is later in the U.S. at least!
Yep, the title is at least partially explained.
[whisper] Fire Emblem isn’t made by Square Enix.
This is an article reporting on an interesting trend in a game. It’s not an op-ed arguing for removal of anything.
N…no?
Yeah, I’ve seen that theory floated to. The only weird part is, why would he need to lie to this dude who’s never met him?

1 replyYeah, I think this is a big part of the issue, and one with no easy solutions. There needs to be better tools for YouTubers looking for support on a lot of stuff, but making that happen is … difficult. To say the least.
