Grant Hackett's family has pleaded with him to make contact with them after revealing the champion swimmer has not been seen since this morning.

"Grant — let us know where you are, we love you, and we want to help you," his father Nev Hackett said.

Mr Hackett said the Olympian was last seen leaving a Gold Coast hotel he checked into last night, but he had left by early this morning.

"If anyone's seen him, to contact the media or the police or the Hackett family, probably to contact Broadbeach police would be the best thing," he said.

"He's definitely a missing person and he's mentally disturbed and needs urgent help.

"We need to get him some help immediately.

"We believe at best he's probably in a hotel somewhere on the Gold Coast — that would be the best scenario I could imagine."

If you or anyone you know needs help:

Grant Hackett was arrested yesterday after an altercation at his parents' house in the Gold Coast suburb of Mermaid Waters.

He was released without charge.

His family are concerned for his welfare and have expressed concerns about his health.

"We're extremely worried about him," Mr Hackett said.

"His doctor can't find him, he hasn't kept an appointment with his lawyer. When we spoke to him several hours ago he just hung up when we asked him where he was.

"His mates are out there looking for him but we need more help.

"It's vital that he's found quickly because we can't let this go on too long."

Craig Hackett said yesterday his brother was "a danger to himself".
