Drunk father-of-two crashes into parked car outside children's school

A drunk driver was picking his kids up from school when he crashed into a parked car while attempting a three-point turn.

The incident occurred around 3.15pm on Tuesday outside Garran Primary School on Gilmore Crescent.

After giving his details to the owner of the parked car, the 55-year-old man drove his two children home, where he was arrested by police a short time later.

The man was taken to Woden police station where he registered a breath alcohol reading of 0.159, more than three times the legal limit of 0.05.

He was issued with a 90-day driving suspension and will soon appear in the ACT Magistrates Court.

Sergeant Harry Hain, the officer in charge of Woden station, described the father's behaviour as appalling.

"It's never OK to get behind the wheel drunk. You risk your life and you risk the lives of everyone on the road around you," he said.

"It's appalling that someone would drive drunk with two children in the car and with children all around in a school zone."
