TV Ratings: ‘The Bachelor’ Wins, ’24: Legacy’ Has Soft Time Slot Debut
3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »
As happens with nearly every scripted series that premieres after the Super Bowl — irrespective of network — Fox’s “24: Legacy” had a soft time slot debut the day after the Big Game. The expansion of the Jack Bauer universe brought in a 1.5 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and 6.19 million viewers. Hi-tech cop drama “Apb” premiered to a 1.5 and 6.11 million viewers, retaining its lead-in nicely. Both series were an improvement upon the slots’ fall occupants (“Gotham” and “Lucifer”), though it’ll take a few more weeks of data to get a real sense of their audiences.
The “24: Legacy” premiere on Sunday night had the misfortune of starting at 11 p.m. on the East Coast, leading to a smaller than usual post-Super Bowl crowd to sample the series. Post-Super Bowl premiere ratings, too, seldom augur success or failure for a series, being more of an indicator of who left their TV on following the presentation of the »

Bad news, sequel and/or reboot fans: Paramount has removed both “World War Z 2” and the latest “Friday the 13th” remake from its schedule, leaving both projects’ futures uncertain for now. In their place is Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!,” which stars Jennifer Lawrence and is being released on October 13.

‘Friday the 13th’ Reboot Axed by Paramount
18 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »
Paramount has decided to back off on its reboot of the iconic “Friday the 13th” horror franchise, which had been in development for several years at the studio.
Paramount announced Monday that it had pulled “Friday the 13th” from its Oct. 13 release date and filled the slot with the Jennifer Lawrence movie “mother!,” but gave no further explanation. Several sources told Variety that Paramount has put the project on ice for several reasons — its $21 million budget; the disappointing $13 million opening weekend for its “Rings” horror reboot; and the looming reversion of the rights to New Line.
“Friday the 13th” had been expected to start principal photography in the early spring with Breck Eisner directing in order to make the October release date. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes was on board to produce with Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.
“Prisoners” scribe Aaron Guzikowski penned the reboot, which would have been the 13th film in the franchise, »

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer seems to be having a tough time with “the cyber,” as his boss Donald Trump would call it. The latest in the Spicer saga of Internet woes is a Mashable report that much of Spicer’s personal data is easily accessible online. It’s part of the “Whois” information required when filing for an Internet domain registration. When Spicer purchased the domain “seanspicer.com” in 2009, he filled out the required Whois information, Mashable reports — adding that he also failed to make it private. Domain registrars such as GoDaddy gather Whois information when domain names are filed. »

Women’s advocacy organization WeForShe has selected 17 unproduced female-written television scripts for its 2017 WriteHer list, now in its third year.
The organization said its aim is to make the list a “go-to” resource for executives seeking female-driven quality pilot scripts written by women.
Joy Blake, a consulting producer on Cinemax’s “Outcast” who made last year’s list, said, “I can’t thank WeForShe enough for their efforts to promote women in the industry. At a time when nearly everyone is talking about diversity, WeForShe is actually doing something.”
The new scripts include Karen Diconcetto’s “In Real Life” and Tess Rafferty’s “I Know Who You Really Are, B—.” The scripts on the list were selected from almost 200 nominations evaluated based on a variety of criteria including diversity of cast, the Bechdel test, and the number and quality of female roles.

'Wheeler': Film Review

Shot under Borat-like conditions in which Stephen Dorff (wearing enough prosthetics to keep from being recognized) sold himself to Nashville residents as an unknown singer-songwriter, Ryan Ross's Wheeler is best viewed as a water-testing exercise: Should Dorff, who has seen considerable bumps in the road as an actor, embark on a second career as a country songwriter? Maybe so, judging from this peculiar film, whose dramatic elements are less plausible than the radio-ready tunes they put forward. The Cmt crowd may take to it on video, especially if Dorff manages to spin this fiction into real-world success.
