Republican can refer to:
Bernard "Bernie" Sanders (born September 8, 1941) is an American politician and the junior United States Senator from Vermont. He is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. A Democrat as of 2015, Sanders had been the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history, though his caucusing with the Democrats entitled him to committee assignments and at times gave Democrats a majority. Sanders has been the ranking minority member on the Senate Budget Committee since January 2015, and previously served for two years as chair of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.
Sanders was born and raised in the New York City borough of Brooklyn and graduated from the University of Chicago in 1964. While a student, he was an active civil rights protest organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. After settling in Vermont in 1968, Sanders ran unsuccessful third-party campaigns for governor and U.S. senator in the early to mid-1970s. As an independent, he was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont's most populous city, in 1981, and was reelected three times. In 1990, he was elected to represent Vermont's at-large congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1991, Sanders co-founded the Congressional Progressive Caucus. He served as a congressman for 16 years before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. In 2012, he was reelected with 71% of the popular vote. During the 2016 presidential primaries, Sanders became the first self-described democratic socialist and first Jewish American to win a presidential primary of a major party, namely the New Hampshire primary.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly called the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or, colloquially, Obamacare, is a United States federal statute signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. Together with the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act amendment, it represents the most significant regulatory overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965. Under the act, hospitals and primary physicians would transform their practices financially, technologically and clinically to drive better health outcomes, lower costs and improve their methods of distribution and accessibility.
The ACA was enacted to increase the quality and affordability of health insurance, lower the uninsured rate by expanding public and private insurance coverage, and reduce the costs of healthcare for individuals and the government. It introduced mechanisms like mandates, subsidies, and insurance exchanges. The law requires insurance companies to cover all applicants within new minimum standards and offer the same rates regardless of pre-existing conditions or sex. In 2011, the Congressional Budget Office projected that the ACA would lower both future deficits and Medicare spending.
Donald John Trump, Sr. (born June 14, 1946) is an American businessperson and media personality. He is the chairman and president of The Trump Organization and the founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts. Trump's career, branding efforts, personal life, wealth, and outspoken manner have made him famous throughout the country. Since 2015, he is also a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election.
Trump is a native of New York City and a son of Fred Trump, who inspired him to enter real estate development. After two years at Fordham University and while studying at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Trump worked for his father's firm, Elizabeth Trump & Son. Upon graduating in 1968 he joined the company, and in 1971 was given control, renaming the company "The Trump Organization". Since then he has built hotels, golf courses, and other properties, many of which bear his name. He is a major figure in the American business scene and has received prominent media exposure. The NBC reality show The Apprentice bolstered his fame, and his three marriages were extensively reported in tabloids.

In an interview with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, Bernie Sanders warned Republicans that there will be hell to pay if they cut social safety net programs. He warned Republicans, if they thought phones were ringing off the hook when they tried to gut the Office of Congressional Ethics, they'll "really be ringing if they try to cut medicare, medicaid, and social security." Jan.12 -- Health care took center stage in Washington and markets on Wednesday as the U.S. Senate took its first step towards dismantling the Affordable Care Act, while biotech stocks plummeted on comments from President-elect Donald Trump. Bloomberg's Kevin Cirilli and Anna Edney report on "Bloomberg Markets."
The 115th Congress is now in session and President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in within days. As a result, Republicans are gearing up to push through their harmful agenda that would hurt the American people; namely by repealing the Affordable Care Act without proposing an adequate replacement, and by making cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security Insurance. There’s one person, however, that’s standing up to them in a meaningful way: Bernie Sanders. In this episode, we discuss how Bernie Sanders is holding them accountable. Additionally, we’ll discuss the DNC Chair race, Donald Trump’s irresponsible use of Twitter, Obama’s parting gift to America, and more. Enjoy! Senate Republicans takes their first steps in realizing their goal of repealing Obamacare. It happened at the end of a marathon vote-a-rama -- an all-nighter of consecutive votes. The law doesn't repeal the Affordable Care Act, but Fox News reports it starts the budget reconciliation process. The process cannot be filibustered -- so it can pass with a simple majority. CNN reports the law is a budget blueprint that GOP lawmakers call the Obamacare "repeal resolution." NBC News reports Democrats against the action protested during the vote, making speeches about people they say will be harmed by the repeal of Obamacare.
The US Senate has taken a first step to dismantling the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, which provides 20 million Americans with health insurance. The resolution now goes to the House of Representatives, which is expected to vote on it this week. Scrapping Obamacare is a top priority for the Republican majorities in both chambers and Republican President-elect Donald Trump. I get asked all the time why I hate Republicans. And given some of the videos I've posted bashing Republicans, I can see where they're coming from. I've either explicitly or implicitly said that they're racist, homophobic, bigoted, out of touch, and a whole bunch of other nasty things. But here's the thing: just because I have beef with the Republican Party doesn't mean I hate conservatives. In fact, I was raised on conservative values and keep many of them near and dear to my heart. So I thought I might post this video to clear the air a little bit. Yes, I hate the Republicans. But my beefs with the Republican Party are pretty well founded, I think. Hopefully you will too after you hear me out.
